Interesting news for people (like me) without time to collect/paint/etc. the tabletop-minaitures.

A campaign pack is announced for Operation Bagration in Russia 1944. It includes a 120 page book for tabletop-gamers, but also

"The General's Wargame is a fast-paced two-player Board Game based on Firestorm - Bagration that uses all the contents of the box and take 60 to 90 minutes to play."

120 page book (including the board game rules ?)
mounted board
plastic and card markers
and a set of 51 painted metal firestorm miniatures

Seems that you can open the box and start immediately to play. The one-million-dollar-question is:

a complex FoW-Cosim

or

only a light family game ?

I hope they post soon more informations/rules.

Price possibly 50 Dollars.

$50? I'll be stunned if it isn't twice that. I'll be even more stunned if it turns out to be very "complex."

Anyone played the Boardgame ?

They've released campaigns for it but I cant find anywhere that sells the board game itself?

I just saw it being played at Cold Wars last weekend. The board is mounted and very high-quality. It is in full color with areas, not hexes, and indicates terrain, cities, and railroads. There are a number of red plastic arrows with circular indents in them. The indents are sized to small round bases on the bottom of the metal playing pieces.

The pieces include small tanks, planes, halftracks, trucks, and a few people--partisans and security forces. Oh, and a locomotive or two for railroad movement. The tanks, etc. are scaled around the same size as GHQ Micro-Armor but have slightly less detail. They are recognizable; even the Sturmoviks can be clearly identified.

The bits are painted dark green for the Soviets and dark Panzer Gray for the Germans--a bit hard to tell apart on the board. The Germans could easily be drybrushed or repainted with Panzer Yellow to distinguish them.

The game is intended to provide "Flames of War" players with opportunities for tactical miniatures games that have an impact on a wider campaign. As such the tie-in rules are thorough. The guys said they're also experimenting with using A&A: Bulge and Normandy with the tie-in rules, and they work very well in allowing those games to also be played out with FoW miniatures games for battle resolution.

Altogether it looked quite nice and I'd consider buying one, though I'd chiefly play it for the boardgame and use other miniatures rules.

The guys broke for supper and I didn't see them finish, but they said it's a fun/easy little boardgame of the '44 campaign in that area.
