Very cool! Erik, thanks for doing all of the heavy lifting on this episode, you did a great job.

How do you store your games? What do you think about rubber bands? Does the thought of tape on your boxes strike fear into your heart? Do you print out your own tuck boxes? Was our conversation useful, or silly, or both?

Regarding storage. I first had Puerto Rico standing in my bookshelf (as a proud owner) but I noticed that the boards started getting bent. Don't you have such problems storing games vertically?

Anyone tried Amazing tape for cards? I saw an add of it using Agricola cards here on BGG. It should also be great for keeping lids on boxes. I'm trying to get the store I'm buying games from to take in some.

Oh and I wouldn't put tape on my boxes (AAAAAH! the horror!). I'm using some rubber bands but I'm very short on them, they tend to break. The store I've bought the games from for the association sent us 2 huge packs of zip bags in 2 sizes. Zip bags are great, especially for a game like TI3. The units for Starcraft are too big to fit into zip bags but I got some larger plastic bags for it.

I even got tired of my friend sorting out the resources for Caylus every time so I put them all into separate bags. Been thinking about making my own Caylus inlay for some time, just open the box and it works like a bank.

That could be humidity as much as anything, though if it is due to the shelving, perhaps filler material will keep stuff flat?



I have not, keep us posted on how it works.


Where do you get your non standard bags?

At least here in Sweden you buy fruits and vegetables in thin clear plastic bags. We pick what we want, put everything in bags (separated by type) and they get weighed and we pay for them. OK, these bags are a bit big but if you put in a bunch of plastic figures in them and fold them into a ball they work great. For Starcraft they are a must have.

I'm not likely to get a hold of any Amazing tape any time soon

Love it! I use it on all game cards. It also works great to keep boxes closed during transport but I don't like storing the boxes with the tape on the outside. It makes the boxes tough to slide out of a pile (I store games horizontally).

FYI, the 1" size works best. I also got the 1/2" one but use it for non-gaming purposes.

BTW, do you use colored or clear tape? Colored would be easier to see.

Clear because I don't know how safe the colored version is. Especially when you leave the tape on cards for a long time you don't want the color to bleed from the tape to the cards. Not sure whether it would do this but better safe than sorry!

I buy them at parent/teacher stores. I've had people look at them and say "Oh, hairbands!", but I don't think these stretch in the same way. Anyway, they never rot and I haven't had them crimp a card yet.

thanks again for this great episode!

I personally tell people that playing the games is only one part of the gaming hobby. There are also other parts around it that I really do enjoy:

- The community: The whole BGG experience, the (your) podcasts (Video & Audio), the game magazines etc.
- The collecting factor: Games are like movies, books or stamps. I do collect them, I'm happy see our collection grow and I'm proud of it.

And, the podcasts topic: The organisation and storing of the games!

- I like opening a new box and to sort / store the pieces in a way that the game may be played instantly.
- I can stay in front of our shelfs for a pretty long time (same as for books & movies) and think out new ways to organize the games in a manner that they are easy to find and browse. But there are also games that absolutely need to be specially presented (like the Alea BigBox series together, or uncommon boxes like Wicked Witches Way), so guests get an idea that good games can also provide a cool look & feel!

I really liked this episode's main topic, as I too am all about the plastic beading boxes and tuckboxes. It is handy as my wife makes jewelry from beads, so we are buying these boxes for one reason or another.

One thing to add to the discussion may be about a labeler...I use mine religiously putting contents on these boxes, such as "Blue Player, 8 meeples, 1 big meeple, 1 pig, 1 builder, 1 mayor, 1 wagon, 1 barn"

Where I do not use tuckboxes, I use women's ponytail bands (without any metal). They do not deteriorate, come in various sizes, are readily available and are cheap.

I also use the Plano ProLatch storage boxes, but the zippered, front-loading cases are getting harder to find. I believe that the tackle boxes will fit into a Sobol case.

Quick question for Scott: I'm unclear as to which Plano tacklebox you're using for your mobile game case. I really like the idea, especially with swapping out the plastic drawers to just change which games you have at the ready. So, which box/drawers is it? Any pictures would be great. Thanks!

Since they both use the 3700 Stowaways, I can swap trays between them. I took the soft-sided one on a cruise, but prefer the hard-sided one for regular use, as I can put stuff in the top.
