Poll:
What is your IQ?
|
|
What did you score the last time you took a traditional IQ test?
|
(I know the whole notion of IQ testing and varieties of intelligence is sometimes controversial, so I'm posting this poll in this forum.)
Note: Googling shows there are numerous IQ tests online, if you want to take one. The following example appears legit, but I can't vouch for it: http://thefreeiqtest.com

I really don't know if that test is a legitimate IQ test. Additionally, there are several surveys involved -- I think there are some on-line tests that do not have this "baggage" involved.

I can state with 100% certainty that the linked test is not legit. The fact that the very first question is a civics/history question is a dead giveaway.
I would also point out that measuring very high intelligence, especially in adults, is a very sloppy and inexact field that not many people care about because two standard deviations is all the general intelligence you're ever going to need for pretty much anything. Specific aptitudes will help you with specific tasks or professions (or games), of course.

The rag called The West Australian that passes for our only daily newspaper in the state where I live once included an IQ test.
It had 10 questions which, of which I got all 10 correct.
It therefore estimated my IQ as 190+.
I still believe this to be the most valid IQ assessment that I have ever had

So far, about 90% of RSPers consider themselves to not only be gifted, but be substantially smarter than the average Joe.

The honesty is refreshing.

I had a friend who administered IQ tests. We would all get completely drunk and take the IQ test. I got 1/2 though mine and passed out. I will never know what that score could've been. But everyone scored above average who completed the test. One guy passed out, woke up an hour later and finished over 100. I think that speaks volumes.

I'd be more apt to believe that IQ tests administered over the internet are wildly inaccurate and routinely give scores higher than a standard, monitored test would provide.
I was going to take the Mensa IQ test a couple years ago but their coordinator would never answer my questions of where/when to take it, over about a week of phone tag. It's amazing how incompetent some "brilliant" people are. I decided against joining their organization even if I qualified.

I'm too smart to participate in this poll.

Seriously, IQ is a measure of...just about nothing of value. It's "raw" intelligence (at best) and we probably care more about "applied" intelligence.
Some of the dumbest people I've known have been those with the highest IQs.

I scored a √-1 on my last one.
I think that means my intellect is a figment of my imagination.

Oh, well. Anyone for a game of Tic-tac-toe? Sure, I'll even let you go first.
I tried the test in the original post. I got to the end and kept getting a screen with a bunch of yes/no radio buttons. It told me they were all optional, but I had to pick one. I picked one (a free health insurance quote; I'm on cobra) and clicked submit. Then I filled in the offer. Then I got another screen with all optional yes/no offers. Tried clicking no on all, but was told to pick one. Gave up. Does that make me smart or stupid?

No you just have to rotate your head by 90 degrees (or possibly the test paper)

I don't think I have ever taken a valid IQ test. I believe I am smarter than US average, but not high. I believe I gain ground with common sense. In short I use what I have at a more efficent level than people that are in all other ways my intellectual superior.
So if W is a high functioning moron, I am a high functioning "average Joe".

My favorite IQ test was from one of those social websites that features lots and lots of tests. It asked a range of questions, most of which made sense and some of which were pretty dumb. After a few pages they started to repeat. Eventually you got tired of the test and quit...at which point it told you your IQ, calculated off the assumption that every page you wasted time on showed you were a little bit dumber.
