EDIT:

And the Maths Trade is on!

Please head to http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/35609 for all your maths trading goodness. Thumbs and geekgold go to Friendless for organizing it all for us. Trade my pretties, trade!

Hello all,

I don't know if it is better to have a thread like this in here or in the trades section, but be gentle if I'm in the wrong place.

I was just wondering how long it was since the last Australasia math's trade, and if anyone would be keen for another one?

The last one I could find using search was a fair while ago, but seemed to be a pretty good success. I was just wondering what has to be done to get a maths trade started in these parts? I've never actually participated in any, but I'm pretty keen to try.

Is there anyone experienced who would be interested in running one, or can anyone make a suggestion as to who I might mail to ask really nicely to kick one off?

If we get one going, I'll put Betrayal at House on the Hill, some Wings of War miniatures and Starship Catan into the list to see what happens. Thanks for your time :)

Josh

I suppose I'd be interested. Maybe fewer trades for me than last time around.

Something else you can do to help get some trades going is to mark games you have for trade and games you want in trade. I quite often use the trade feature here to check to see if I've got any trade matches with other Aussie residents.

The last (and first) math's trade was earlier this year-- you can find a geeklist on it. I still haven't played all the games i got in trade from that!

It was great though.

I would probably be interested and can someone explain to me how it actually works?

I could be making this up but I have heard it involves chicken gizzards, wax dolls, pins, smoke and for some reason when it is about to complete BGG goes down ninja

There are some detailed explanations on this site somewhere but in a nutshell you...

1. Select a game or games you are happy to part with and add them to a geeklist that would be set up for this purpose.

2. Study this geeklist for items you would like to have.

3. Write a list for each game you have entered stating in order of preference games you would be happy to swap it for. Email this list to the organiser.

4. The organiser runs all the lists through a program that matches up as many trades as possible. These will not necessarily be direct swaps, rather chains of exchanges. You may give a game to Jack, who gives a game to Jill, who gives a game to Bob who gives a game to you. These chains can be very long.

The best part about these things is that if you enter a game but find nothing worth swapping it for, you can enter an empty list to keep your game. No risk.

I've enjoyed these things in the past but still haven't played with all my last takings. I'll pay careful attention though, might be tempted.

I'm still playing and enjoying my copy of Winner's Circle from that maths trade, it was a *great idea* and I'd love to participate in another maths trade.

I guess it depends on whether or not we get enough people. How will I/we know if it gets up again?

Okay, well it seems to me we have at least a few people keen for a trade. Earlier this morning I sent a geekmail to the gentleman who ran the last maths trade, so I'll keep you posted on what he has to say.

The real difficulty isnt in finding people to trade, it's in finding someone with the time and experience to run the trade. Just keep this thread subscribed for a little while, and I'll update it if we find someone who can get this show off the ground.

I suspect I'd be interested.

Got a fair number of games that i/we don't play anymore that could benefit from going to a better home....

Maths trade, eh? I am still recovering from the last one, and with work and the like I probably couldn't run another until December.

But, if someone else capable of firing up a JVM from the command line -- say Friendless -- wants to run it, I can answer questions and recommend parameters and the like.

Anyone can do it, really, but you need to be down with command lines and fixing broken files and so forth.

I'll chuck in a game or two also.
