The rules are a bit opaque to me. When do you play cards (e.g. cash, jewels) onto characters? Can you choose to play them face down or face up? How many can you play at once? Can you play them on any character or just your own?

We played that you can pretty much play any card at any time (with the exception of cards that explicitly say to be played during your action phase). Mostly, though, we kept them hidden until strategic moments (like pulling out a weapon to sway a fight in your favor) and nobody ever played loot face up. You could play your cards face up to prevent theft from The Kid, but you risk the chance of losing these items if you go overboard.

We also played that once a card goes face up, it remains face up if traded or stolen. (I don't think that was in the rules, but it just kind of seemed like common sense.)
