Greetings All,
Today we learned that the shipping container carrying the November '08 Pandemic print-run is in a U.S. port. Unfortunately, however, this container has been selected by the Department of Homeland Security for X-Ray inspection which could delay movement of the container by anywhere from 2 days to a month.
If this sounds familiar, it is because the May '08 print run of Pandemic was delayed by nearly 3 weeks for the very same reason.

Maybe they should have called the game "Patriot Act Bumper Stickers".

They don't have a conveyor? Sounds like they could learn a thing or two from a small regional airport.

If it's a month out, that only leaves 2 weeks before christmas. Sounds like a good thing for my wishlist...
There's plenty in this shipment to go around, right?

You know.. With a down economy and all that you'd think the DHS would try to speed things so that a toy company doesn't lose out on the thanksgiving sales. That type of thing could destroy many a company.

I think this line's mostly filler

That type of thing could destroy many a company. Well, the fact that the game (and most product, it seems) comes in from CHINA is pretty damning for the economy, too.
We have delays at Customs (& Border Patrol) often, which is why we completely ditched Long Beach and now deliver almost exclusively through Savannah. Seems to flow a little quicker. I wonder which port Zev brings 'em in through.
I doubt it's worth becoming CTPAT certified for a game company, though.

Cargo inspection is a bit more complicated than baggage inspection. Unfortunately, it is a time consuming process.

I sense a game design in here somewhere … you play a small game company trying to deliver your games from China to US customers. It could use some of the same bits as "Container", and maybe there could be little wooden blocks that look like miniature copies of the box of the actual game.

You could have high risk ways to smuggle things in or send them into the black hole that is customs.

I went to EuroQuest IV, especially hoping to pick this up, but the Z-Man ("Z-Men"?
) reps there told me just that. A shame too, b/c this was the ONLY game that I was interested in picking up from Z-Man.

Do any of these games ever NOT get selected for this so-called random x-ray inspection?

Possibly those that don't say "Pandemic" on it methinks If there really were bioweapons in boxes of Pandemic, the US would be hit terrorism AND irony.

Wow. This regularly scheduled Pandemic delay is a bit late this month. I almost thought I was going to get it.

As I recall Hannibal had a similar problems. I think maybe another Valley Games product did too.

That is not a safe assumption. The previous print run was sold out at the publisher level before the items arrived at Z-Man's warehouse. Based upon the pre-orders we have received, the game continues to be extremely popular.
If you are looking to get a copy before Christmas, you should pre-order it now from your FLGS, the BGG marketplace, or an online retailer.
