What's the big deal you might think? Hardly breaking news. But, no he plays the WAR ON TERROR. You see, I was browsing this website (don't ask. research purposes) when I came across this picture in an old thread:
http://www.ronaldreagan.com/forums/showthread.php?s=dca1de64...
Those of you acquainted with a certain controversial game may recognize something familiar-looking in the background ... it's not what I think it is, is it?
I can only think it's a hoax. I've emailed the publishers to see if they know anything about it. Anyone have any news on this?

Yes, Scrofula, it sucks.
I just wasted 100 :gg: on this.

Doesn't really look like it, though it does appear to be something that runs a gradient from yellow to red. The gradient itself and the lack of the other hallmarks of the box would indicate it is not the War on Terror
---
Amended; I blew the picture up in the Gimp, and it so is War on Terror.

I think it's just a co-incidence. I don't reckon that's a copy of the game.
If you download the photo and zoom in there's no sign of digital manipulation. So if it has been digitally altered it has been down extremely well, by someone who really knows what they're doing.
Besides if you look at the image and look at the box side of War On Terror there's a few subtle differences. The background colour of the box is yellow but in the photo it's an orange/brown. In the photo there's also some sort of mark on the right side of the "W" that isn't present on the box. When viewed in that light the first letter actually looks more like an "L".
I can't believe I just spent that much time figuring this stuff out. Must be a boring day!
Either way, it's still a pretty funny image for those in the know

That's really way too subtle to be a hoax and that web site is way too red. And that is definitely the box to War on Terror.

I think that's got to be it behind him.
My guess: Somebody gave him the game as a gag gift, and it was sitting behind him when that picture was taken.

Comparing the images of the box in the database and the photo, where it appears to be a bit in a shadow, it looks like it very well could be it. My guess would be it is was a gag gift, as he was the originator of the term "War on Terror."

I think you're mistaken about this. I took the image of the box top art from the game's gallery page and cut out just the part that could be the front edge viewable in the picture. It matches exactly. See for yourself:

Haha, I'm too slow. Just uploaded a version I made. Anyway, to me it's the WoT box in the background. How it got there, by looking at the other elements I think it may have been added since it seems more in focus and with brighter colors compared to the surrounding objects but I did just wake up and my eyes aren't working yet.
If not, then....

That's a doctored image. I can't find a link to an original that isn't cropped, but here's another with different doctoring: http://www.internetweekly.org/iwr/parody_bush_phone.html
Do a google image search for "Bush on Phone" and lots of funny versions will pop up, most with Tony Blair in the picture frame and an upside down phone.
EDIT: Here's the original: http://www.sutherlandmanifesto.com/blog/uploaded_images/bush...

Actually, I kind of thought that Ed Koch's essay on GWB was more interesting than the picture of War on Terror in the background.

Ha! Good news travels quick. We just got 3 emails about this. I was going to say I so wanted it to be real, but suspected it wasn't. The funny thing is we sent him a set about a year ago, but there's just no way they'd let it pop up in the background of what looks like an official photo.
But what it's doing on ronaldreagan.com is beyond me. Very very strange. But funny. Good find!

Scott? Are you blind? Look closely... the "W" is different. The middle upward line and the left upward line are different than the WOT box art. Even the slant of the "W" is different. As shown above, it's doctored anyway. Hey wait! Unless.... the original photo without the box was actually doctored to take the box out... hmmm...

You know, that's actually very plausible. What if ... just what if they took this official shot, released it and only then noticed their error. Naturally you'd doctor the original, send it out again and hope no one notices and if you catch it early enough, no one will. The "original" to my eyes looks a bit strange. I mean, it's a very black box, as if it's been filled in too crudely perhaps?
Does anyone know anyone in the White House? Maybe we should just phone them up and ask them.
