My wife, daughter and I sat down to play Affenbande this evening to introduce the little one to the wonders of board gaming. She is 19 months old. My daughter picked out everyone's board for them (Dad got yellow, Mom got red, and she got blue). Momma explained the rules in German to the little devil and she seemed to get it. At first she was excited about the bag and wanted to go out of turn, but quickly learned that she went after dad and waited patiently for her turn and yelling her name when it was her turn to pull from the bag. She didn't understand that your turn is over when one draws their own color, which we explained each time it was her turn. After a few cycles she started to comprehend that she needed to pass the bag, but clearly excited to get it back.
Overall, after three games momma won one game, poppa won one game, and Sophia won one game. This was a great first gaming experience for her. She learned colors, counting, patience, certain pieces belonging to other people, and turn taking. Its only a matter of months before I challenge her to C&C: Ancients.... hahahaha.
