Pozy.com just announced they will no longer carry a Game of the Day. They claim they don't know enough about games to make it worthwhile. They are focusing completely on toys from now on.
Sad, sad day. Not only did I get great games at great prices, I usually had them in hand the next day. Shipping was fast and made Tanga look like they used the Pony express to deliver.
The grossly underestimated their margins, and the volume needed to be profitable at the prices they were offering.
Tanga doesn't sell games exclusively. There's already little money in the hobby. Pozy were just shooting themselves in the foot by marking games down so much. Kudos to those who were able to take advantage of their offerings.

A pity. I bought Agricola from them on the spur of the moment and it turned out to be one of my favorite games. I also bought a nice shipment from them, Conflict of Heroes, Qwirkle, Stone Age and Kingsburg.

Thanks to all the BGG'ers that made it fun to dink around over there, Lately however, I found that I was spending more and more time off of that website and spending it here instead.
I don't think they were losing money in any way, they just can make a lot more money selling toys. Good for them, not so good for us.

I am not sure that is the case. The guy that originally started it up, from what I understand, was into games and knew quite a bit about them. He moved on and took a new position with a different company. There was a hiccup during the transition before it got back to running almost to normal. It never seemed quite the same though - it really felt like someone had taken over someone else's pet project.
Maybe they underestimated the profit it could generate, but I am not sure they underestimated their margins. They had a fixed cost, a fixed sell price, and a specifc quantity to sell. With the exception of a couple of games (Redneck Life, or whatever it was called, Zombies, and the Mr. Jack extension), they seemed to sell out rather quickly and with no need to reduce the asking price. So they knew ahead of time how much profit each offering was going to generate.
Pozy wasn't exclusive to just games and they had the toy side of the business to keep them going as well. they also had the advantage of being able to add a lot of other things to your deal of the day order as well - something Tanga can't do.
I'm not saying they were selling at a loss. But their profit margin probably didn't make it worthwhile to carry the stock they needed to carry to be competetive.
And toys are dirt cheap...much better turn-over and profit margins for the same amount of time and effort.

And I'm not saying it was a money-maker, I am just saying they probably didn't have the same passion as the guy who started it. maybe if he were still there, maybe it would have continued. Or not.
I have bought several games from both Tanga and Pozy without any problems. Pozy was nice because I usually had whatever I ordered the next day. They were very fast when it came to shipping.

Well I know I will not be shedding any tears over their down fall. I ordered form them twice and both times it was a nightmare. I understand things happen but when their head Customer Service rep places all the blame on me because I was the one that placed the order with them? WTF! is all I can say.
Pandemic, Race for the Galaxy, Formula D, and Powergrid (plus more that I'm forgetting). These games came to me at a great price from Pozy, and I'll certainly miss the site.
Bah, that's really too bad. I find games to generally be outside my money comfort window (at around $30-50), but Pozy made it possible for me to buy in (at $15-30).

All with quick service and great prices. It was very good while it lasted.
I think they were trying to use the games as a loss leader and were getting a lot of us BGG guys who just bought the one thing. Unlike a store the internet is like that. I just get my deal and get out without browsing.
Not really a lost leader all the time. I know whenever I make a purchase from them, I always order more stuff to meet the $99 free shipping mark. I think my family and I have spend over $1200 dollars from them overall (about 12 orders total all together...) over the last year or so.
Too bad, they were usually very quick to ship and the free shipping price point was low.
