We fly as one...
My 3 1/2 year old son received Trouble for Christmas from his grandparents. We love games and we thought it would be great for him to play and for us to share this with him.
Uncannily he seemed to win a lot though....??!!
What was happening? Was there something wrong with our strategy or was he just incredibly lucky? Should we take him to the casino and say good bye to our hum drum existence?
I'll explain what happens and see what you think....
When we play he only ever takes one counter out from his base and always takes it around the board to the home spaces. For those who play Trouble this is ok, but I always thought that as you need to roll a 6 to get out of your base it is wise to take a token out when you roll a 6. He never does this. I always do! He always beats me! Hmmmm.. Maybe there is something here.
I thought about it. There is only a 1 in 6 chance of getting a token out each turn. ie 16%. As you go around, assuming that everyone gets out at the same time ( a big assumption) you will move around at the average of 3.5 spaces each turn, ie no one will land on your piece and send you home. If you get a token out you lose your 6 and put a token in the other players path. For each other player there is a 1 in 6 chance of them landing on you as they pass, ie 16%. For 2 other players that is a 33% chance that they will land on you as they pass.... and so my great strategy of getting pieces out when I roll a 6 doesn't seem too smart anymore.
Then again maybe my son is just very lucky!
