I met Rich when I moved to NYC; right before he moved to LA to start his current gig with AMC's Mad Men. If you haven't watched Mad Men, you should. I think it's one of the best shows out there (and I'm not sayin' that 'cuz he's a friend). Oh yeah.. Rich is also a gamer.
One more thing folks... The beginning of this show is really really really really really really really hard to listen to. Aldie and I had just gotten back from a party, and we were a bit... lubricated. But I promise you, it gets better... just give it a listen.
This is so funny. I have only seen the first episode of Mad Men on DVD, but I remember his character. He is the really nice guy that the women in the office should go out with, but instead they want to have affairs with jerks. Cool; I had no idea I had traded games with him. Represent the geek (and "The Geek"), Rich!
Great interview guys. Just finished watching the first season of Mad Men, got the DVDs from Netflix. So I guess I missed these retro advertisements that you were talking about. Was sad to see that the second season DVDs won't be available until July, but hopefully I won't see any spoilers before then (although it probably means I won't be caught up in time to watch season 3 live). Definitely happy to see it winning all the Golden Globe and SAG awards.
Derk - You've played In the Shadow of the Emperor! We played it together back in 2007 (with Jan and Morgan). You failed to appreciate how excellent it is, if I recall correctly. I'm with Rich on this one. Very underappreciated game.

I just got that for Christmas. Have yet to play it, though.
And this was fun to listen to! I don't watch Mad Men, though. Saw one episode and it didn't really catch with me or my wife. Rich sounds like a lot of fun, though, and I would love to play a round of something in the future with him, if the chance arose.
Than again, I'm a game whore and I'll play anything with anyone if there's a spot at the table.
I know... then again, watching movies in general makes you want to smoke. I don't actually think that smoking is intentionally glorified per se, but visually speaking smoke is just so darn cool looking.
In another time's forgotten space, your eyes looked through your mother's face. Wildflower seed on the sand and stone, may the four winds blow you safely home.
I'm in the middle of the first Season of Mad Men now, very good show. This was my first time listening to GeekSpeak and I must say it was pretty damn entertaining! Thanks Derk and Aldie.
I learned there are at least two celebs on BGG, Amy Poehler may or may not play board games and Jenna Fisher definitely does (how hot is that?) My favorite parts of the podcast was hearing about Rich watching his friend Bobby Moynihan play him on SNL as he sat in the audience and also getting his fellow Mad Men cast members to play games.
