I believe that the dice are marked with a wood burner, so should not fade over time. This is why there is some variation between dice in contrast. Lovely review.
Now the dice have six different sides, and they're all the same...
All the sides of the dice are the same!? Now that's one way to eliminate luck in a dice game.
Just kidding. Couldn't help but hear this the first time through and comment. I know that it means each DIE is the same, not that the faces are all the same.
Nice review. Looks like a sure pass for me. I've never liked games where I have to record stuff on little sheets. Blech. Gameplay does seem more interesting than, for example, the Settlers dice game but I know I can buy something a lot more entertaining for $28.
I could be wrong, but I think that if you were so inclined you could swap out the pegs for cribbage pegs. That is, if the ones that come with the game are not to your liking... I've played a number of games of Roll Through the Ages in its play-test form and really liked it. It also really appealed to my fiance.

From the Boards and Bits advertisement:
Roll Through the Ages $18.80 The price of this game used to be fixed. If you paid $29.90 for this game you are a victim of price-fixing and an unscrupulous retailer.
