I recently acquire this game and was a bit dissapointed by the quality of the components in it. The Hill Rise Wild seems like a kind of low budget production and the general aspect of the game is not very appealing; the major problem being the faction sheet and the "hat system" token. I personnally find that the bord is nice (and it's random placement improve re-playabilty) and I like the illustrations done for the characters. I know that a lot of people can judge a game only for the visual aspect of it's component without even trying the game. The problem with this one is that the game (in my opinion) is a very good one: it's an easy learning rules fighting miniatures game with a very fun theme. You find all the fun of a fighting game, without a set of heavy and annoying rules. So I thought the game deserve a little re-desing of some of its components, at least to make it more appealing and enjoyable to play.

First thing to do was to replace those "bad" faction sheets:

The major problem with those original faction sheet is that they are to big, so takes to much space on the table, are one use only (you need to make photocopies of it) and above all are just bad looking.

So I came up with new nice looking color Clan Cards for each faction. Here's two exemples:

On the original faction sheet, you need to mark the Life and Ammo circles as you loose them. On this new card, simply use token to keep track of your characters Life and Ammo, this way avoiding the need to make photocopies.

Also, instead of placing the "hats" on the character token during play, I folded all the "hats" in half and glued it into a 2 sided counter. The blood spot beside Characters Condition is where you'll place those Stun, Slam or Unk token (hats). Again, it is more easy to handle during game play. Having the image of each character beside his statistics also makes game play easier. I personnally laminated the clan cards in clear plastic protector so they will last longer.

I also folded all the characters in half and glued them into a 2 sided counter. I laminated them in clear plastic and put them in plastic older. This way, all the fragile component of the game are protected and will last longer.

Has I play, I found that it can be quite inportant to keep track of witch character carrys the Great Whateley Seal, the Necronomicon or the Flags (if you play the Flag game Variant). Again, as with the "hats", I found it not very great to put the "item hat" on the character token. So I did those token:

One flag for each Clan, the Necronomicon and the Great Whateley Seal. During play, I simply slide the token under the character token on the board or join it in the figure plastic holder. This way every players sees it and it holds better than the "hat system". Again I laminated those tokens in clear plastic.

I also created six variant scenarios for the game. Some of them use Great Old Ones, so I created the cards and token for those new characters. There are 4 Great Old Ones, and here is an exemple:

You can download all the addition I made for this game on the file section of The Hill Rise Wild BGG page. Hope you enjoy it and dare to give a try at this good game.

I've recently played the game, and I'll be sure to print out those excellent Clan Cards you made. The counters are also very nice!
The brutal damage counters in the Tile & Token pdf is really handy as well. Looks like I have some printing to do.

Thanks a lot for all your efforts!

Personally I used plastic stands for the characters.
Using tokens for life, ammo and the special abilities helps the bookkeeping process.

I was thinking to put gridlines (1" squares) on the tiles, which could greatly enhance the measuring time (I'm not a Minature gamer ;p).
Still not sure what would be the best way to proceed.
So, tips are always handy .

Awesome stuff! I may have to try out the scenarios with the Great Old Ones for sure! Now I'm off to find some good quality cardstock I can print these on.
