Tom, I always love your reviews (in fact when I'm looking into an unfamiliar game and I click to show reviews, if yours is there I'll nearly always read yours first and give it the most consideration), I think this is only the 2nd video review of yours I've seen.
I agree that its more exciting if you've seen the show, but I've played with a number of players who have not seen the show and so far most/all of them have enjoyed the game too I definatly agree that everything makes thematic sense. I love how very nearly every mechanic has ties to the tv series. Thats the main thing that non show watchers miss. But non show watchers still greatly enjoy the social aspects of the game, kinda like a supercharged Shadows over Camelot game with multiple traitors (I enjoy this game much more than SoC, BSG is much more focused on player interaction and suspicioun than SoC).
Its only unfortunate for most of the rest of the players if you are a cylon
Also, I wanted to add for people who haven't played the game, that people throw skill cards into the mix face down, and they are shuffled to help reduce chances that the cards don't give away who the cylons are.
I agree that cylons tend to win more (at least in our group), but I wanted to mention that the game rulebook contains an official variant to tweak the balance (by adjusting the starting resources on the dials up or down). So if a gaming group has a lot of cylon wins and wants to tweak it to be more even, then they can increase the starting resources as per the rulebook (and vice versa)

Stop the admins removing history from the Wargaming forum.
I find the Humans win about the same amount as the Cylons, as we have gotten more experienced we win a lot more as the Humans (possibly more than half to be honest).
I'm very interested in Battlestar Galactica the Boargame. I haven't had a chance to play it, but I've read (and now seen) a lot about it. In fact, the game is making me interested in checking out the TV show, which I suppose is kind of the opposite way to go
Is it my impression or is the video quality better than before? The image quality in this one seemed sharper for some reason.
Thanks for the review. I have already seen plenty of great things about this in geekbuddy analysis and was convinced not only that I need to one day buy the game, but also to watch the show (hadn't followed at all on the SciFi channel, watched the miniseries last night and was pretty much blown away). This will definitely be my one game purchase for the year. Assuming I can get my neighbors and wife to watch the show so they know what's going on!
The game clearly has a "werewolf" component to it, and the miniseries clearly does too. Almost suggests that the director and producers of the new series were werewolf or Mafia players themselves...

I like elephants. I like how they swing through trees.
My biggest complaint about the game, which I generally love otherwise, is that I disagree when you say that even though the Cylon ships go away with each jump, they will "always come back". It's been my experience that sometimes they just don't, depending where the Cylon Attack cards are shuffled into the deck, or if Roslin or Boomer can bury them through their abilities. Or they come out, but at times when it doesn't matter, like when you were about to jump the fleet, anyway. Without enough appearances by Cylon ships after the first jump, the game can be pretty repetitive and dull, especially once the Cylon(s) is revealed.
Great review, I would agree that mostly the Cylons win following the normal rules. I know when I find out I am a Cylon I am fairly confident of a win, the only time it goes the other way I find is if all Cylons find out in the sleeper phase and the distance at the sleeper phase is at 6, then I generally think the humans have a fairly easy time of it!
We also had the experience that there was only one cylon attack (with ships) b/c we never drew the cards for an assault. However, there was a enough drama happening inside Battlestar Galactica to keep us busy! The person who was Admiral, who also happened to be elected president, was also a Cylon from the beginning and was slowly making our situation worse and worse (without us fully realizing until it was too late). By the time we lost, all of our resources were down to 3 or less!
But like Tom said, I was NEVER bored...and even after losing, I immediately wanted to play again.
