Hi,
we are a french couple visiting new zealand for 1 year thanks to a working-holiday visa. And after only 3 months here, the boardgame demon itches us again ! gosh !
We are used to play Caylus, Settlers of Catan, Antiquity, Dominion, Diplomacy, Civilization, Alhambra and lots of other games but we are eager to discover new ones. We would be really glad to meet kiwi players, especially that it would allow us to improve our english (even if it's with some kind of "token" or "backstab" vocabulary ;-D ).
We now work around Napier in Apple-picking but plan to do some WOOFing in the North Island after Easter.
Hoping that there are some players available somewhere.

If you are up in auckland feel free to drop me a line (just geekmail me). There are several boardgame clubs here. The Mt Albert one being the biggest I'm sure some one from that will speak up soon enough.

A note to all,
over the weekend Sami and Pauline stopped into our place for an evening of boardgames. they are a great couple, bringing the right attitude to board gaming.
they are a very likable couple and aren't traveling serial killers or spies. (unless they are very good spies).

You know someone is a good spy when their hosts thanks them for coming and stealing thier secrets and then invites them back. Damn they ARE good spies, and I really enjoyed gaming with them at the Wellycon Warmup.

The 'WarmUp' was really excellent : lots of players, lots of games, a really nice atmosphere & a really welcoming people. It was good to dicover so many new games and to be able to play with Kiwis ! Thank you Andrew for organising this event and for your kindness with the Frogs !
But don't worry, we aren't spies... of course not!... ''Rainbow warri-what ? We didn't really catch the name... ;D

If we were french spies, I wouldn't drink only water, would I ? ...Isn't it a striking evidence that we aren't spies ? or maybe that we aren't french.
But watch out : Greg says that if usually lose games, but he won several games in a row the last time we met. Or maybe it was just a cunning stratagem of these deceitful frenchies ;D

I'm Karim, Sami older brother.
August 5th, Sami and Pauline boarded the "Princess Ashika" from Nuku'alofa to visit the Ha'apai islands group. The Princess Ashika sunk during the night, Sami and Pauline were among the 74 persons lost at sea. There are no words to express our disbelief and grief.
I remembered his post in this subforum only yesterday, and wanted to thank all the BGGers here who answered their post and allowed them to have their "fix" of boardgaming while in New Zealand. They loved their stay there and wrote us of their pleasure each time they could sit at a table and have a go at new games.
Thank you Karim Chakroun

Karim that is devastating news, I am so sorry for your loss. They were both such enthusiastic people and I know everyone in Wellington that met them were so impressed. It is a great loss and the world is a poorer place as a result. When I saw the thread I thought they might be back in Wellington for some more games and I was excited by the thought. God bless you and the respective families, this is sad news indeed.

Karim, I'm so sorry for your tragic loss. I never met Sami and Pauline, but knew of their Kiwi travels courtesy of this thread. I was hopeful of meeting them at Wellycon, but I think they had moved on from Wellington at that point.
So when this thread was renewed, I assumed they were on the move again, and was hopeful they'd be coming somewhere nearby.
I know mere words can offer so little, but you, (and the rest of both families), are in our thoughts and prayers at this time.
