As an episode of Board Games with Scott, I did an 18 minute exploration and review of Small World.

You can watch it through Vimeo:

or download it over at
http://www.boardgameswithscott.com/?p=206

Note - I make a comment in my video how you have to leave one person in each space when picking people up, but you do have the option to clear out a territory if you wish.

Scott--

Not directly related to Small World, but still relevant, I hope.

In an earlier episode of BGWS you pronounced Vinci "win-key," which I would consider correct since it's Latin (I know there are dissenting opinions on Latin pronunciation, but the majority of scholars seem to be in agreement). Now you're pronouncing it "vin-chee," which would be correct if it were Italian, I guess. Why the change?

Curious,
Sean (pronounced "shawn")

Oh, and I've always enjoyed your videos, by the way. Thank you.

[edited to add thanks]

This must be the funniest BGWS episode I've seen. Haha. I loved the way you were guffawing after you showed the Vinci box with the Small World title pasted on, and how you changed your voice when the elves came in and a lot of other things.

Awesome. Not going to get the game, but the review was kickass.

Nice video review Scott. Just out of interest, what's your current rating for Small World (out of 10)?

Umm, because I was playing the Latin Scholars, but they went into decline since that episode, and now I'm playing the Italian Plumbers.

Mamma mia!

I had given Vinci a 7. For me, the changes and the shortened play time take it up to an 8.

I got in everyone's hostile little face. Yes, these are wooden cubes from boardgaming. Yes, I'm comfortable with that. I am enlightened.

As always Scott, well done.

It's Vin-kee if you use scholars' best guess at classical Latin. But it's Vin-chee if you use Church Latin, which has been in use for far longer than the Roman Empire even existed!

Great review, Scott!

Small nitpick:

I have a lot of games that would suffer or be difficult to play if I lost some of the pieces. I don't think that could be called a "flaw in the design," though.

I would have enjoyed to get (1.) one extra token per race and (2.) twelve additional blank tokens for my self-made race.

While No 2 may be difficult to add into the storage tray, No.1 should have been possible to add.

Thank you so much Scott for another really helpful review.

Based on your review, I have now ordered Small World.

A message is on its way to DoW to let them know that one sale (and many many more no doubt) are due in no small way to your excellent reviews.

Dear Scott,

I am officially horrified. Your laughter at the end of the intro is probably the creepiest thing I've ever seen anywhere. I mean, with the exception of Youtube, of course.

A great review!

My cat also enjoyed it. Maybe I'll try and teach him Small World, the bad thing is that he'll pick the Ratmen instinctively.

You should really get a small honorarium from the game companies for these fabulous videos. This will make at least the third game I have bought that I would knot have even heard of without BGWS.
