With the plethora of play-by-forum Battlestar Galactica games going on here and elsewhere, I was wondering if that might work for other games... and I thought, why not for LNOE? I might be willing to host/run such a game. I'd probably need to get permission from Flying Frog to use at least a few of the main graphics to facilitate it well enough. But assuming everyone involved has their own copy of the game and can keep track of their hand of cards, then I should be able to run it by showing the board and figures and distributing the cards via Geekmail. In any case, let me know if you're interested, and if so, I'll try to work out the details and see if we can put something together. I'm thinking of a 5p game with 4 Heroes and one player as the Zombies, doing one of the shorter scenarios like Escape in the Truck.

Wow, yeah I would play.

That is a lot of cards, but it seems like FFP is a bit more lenient in allowing scans of their cards.

EDIT: Would it be photoshop like Brian's? or pictures?

One thing I was thinking about is that LNOE has tons more interrupts than BSG does.

Take "Line is Dead" For example. You can't simply skip the "interrupt" phase whenever a Hero decides to search. That would give away the fact that the Zombie player does not have that card.

Then again, are you going to be using decks from all expansions or just the base set. (hopefully with Advanced cards included?)

If you need help with this in any way, I'd love to try and help. LNOE is pretty much the game that got me into Boardgames back when it came out, and it's still my favorite game.

I would love to play. I'm actually moderating a game of Android on BGG. If it can be done for that game, I'd think it could be pulled off for LNOE.

Well, I don't know about scanning the cards... I would think that would be where they'd draw the line. But as all of the card details are listed on their wiki page, then we could probably at least post the essential text each time a card is played, which would be nice (as opposed to the BSG games, where only the title of the card can be posted). Then again, if what they're trying to avoid is people playing the game without owning it, then probably only the card title should be posted. Then again (again), with the card details posted on the wiki page, then that can always be a resource, anyway. Well regardless, if FFP okays this, and they may not, then I would want a commitment from anyone playing that they already own the game.

I would use some method similar to Brian's to give a pictorial overview of the board and the figures positioned on it. It probably won't look as nice as that, but would be functional enough for gameplay. I believe there are enough pictures in the gallery already for me to make what I need. The zombies and the specific spaces would probably have to be numbered/lettered, so for example, the zombie player could say "Zombie G moves to space 14, Zombie D moves to space 11, etc."

As far as interrupts, yeah, there would pretty much have to be allowances for special cards to be played at different times. As the host, I'd have to determine when those possible times are, while also keeping things moving along enough.

I think it can be done. Searching would be interesting, and it would depend on what expansions/promos you decide to use, but I think it's definitely feasible.

Scanning all the cards won't be necessary, anything you don't have can be easily looked up on the wiki http://www.flyingfrogwiki.com. Just a thought.

My memory is hazy on this, but I recall reading somewhere on BGG that Flying Frog did not want an internet version of the game created by users. I could be completely off base here, but I thought I'd mention it to see if anyone else recalls this.

I do not know if it was specific to an automated server version, or a play-by-forum version but I thought I'd mention it. I did try to find the thread in the forums, but to no avail - so maybe I'm wrong.

Either way, scanning the complete cards is likely pushing it too far. It may be best to check with Flying Frog before much work is put into this.

Jason turned down a request I made a while back to share a LNOE Vassal module. But the thing is, with a Vassal module or a Java rendition of the game or some other online implementation, those would be, in essence, fully playable versions of the game... If they don't want something like that made available publically, I can totally understand that. A play-by-forum game is more akin to 5 or 6 people playing the game somewhere, perhaps with a few others looking on. There should be nothing about a PBF game that would allow someone to access it or "download it" and thereby be able to play the game themselves without having paid for it. PBF games aren't exactly ideal in the normal sense of what constitutes playing board games, but for fans of particular games like BSG, they provide a different long-term kind of experience to enjoy the game through. I think a PBF LNOE game could work pretty well in that sense, and I don't believe it would constitute the same type of use as that of a Vassal module or other online implementation.

Of course, the game and all of the graphics are property of FFP, so if they don't want some of the graphics used in a PBF context, or don't want a game played out publically in that way, for whatever reasons, then that is their prerogative and I would totally respect that. I'll send Jason a message and see what he says, but if it's a "no" then I can appreciate that.

EDIT: I keep confusing FFG and FFP!

Ah, no doubt. And I just sent the message... Oh well, I'm not necessarily expecting a "yes", anyway, so there's no rush.

Hopefully we'll be getting some reports back from that about the new FFP stuff. cool

I was just thinking about this today... I sent a message to Mary to see if she can find out whether we can use any of the graphics for this. I don't want to keep bugging Jason about it. Regardless, I can always put together a simple version of the board and pieces that doesn't use any of the game graphics, akin to some of the BSG forum games where they have a simple graphical representation of what's going on. Actually, I'll go ahead and start putting that together...

In the meantime, the first 5 people to chime in and post which character they'd like to be (or to play as The Zombies - one Zombie player, only!) will be who gets to play this time. It will be the Escape in the Truck scenario, and for simplicity's sake I'm just using LNOE stuff, and not any of the additional GH rules or characters.

I'll post more details soon about how this will work, but if you join, please be aware that this may be somewhat of a "work in progress" or "guinea pig" game. As far as I know, this type of game hasn't been attempted yet for LNOE, so there may be some kinks to work out. Also, if you join, please be committed to checking in to BGG at least once a day to see if your input is needed (if you can't access for a few days at some point, that's fine, but please give a heads up). If you join, make sure you are subscribed to this thread for further details. I'll be starting a new thread on the PBEM forum for the actual game, but until that is ready to go, this will be the place for more info.

I hope we play with all random characters. (much more fun that way)

If we get to pick and choose though...Sally. (or the zombies)

Okay, I'll do random characters if you like. If someone has a strong preference to play the Zombies, though, let me know... First person to declare so will be the Z's. Otherwise, I'll draw random roles for the Heroes.
