How is this game solitaire?

Given that it's a block game, and deception of what fleets are going where is a huge part of that, (as is choosing day or night when naval battles occur), I'd wager, not so great.

I own this one, and have set it up and played a little solitaire to learn the rules. It plays solitaire poorly.
I also own Europe Engulfed, which actually plays solitaire pretty darned well. You can try out strategies and play around with it a bit. AE has such a large scope, and so much going on, that it's very difficult to try and keep everything in your head and play it solitaire.
Plus, the move/reaction system for naval combat in AE forces you to flip sides constantly. That can really screw up your head-space when you're trying to solo the game.

I've frequently solo'ed this game and pretty much did enjoy it. Soloing a wargame does give a great opportunity to develop and try out different strategies but never can be compared to playing F2F. In that context soloing AE doesn't differ from other wargames imho.
