None of the Flipsiders games have reviews so I'm going to review the two I have.
Components: This game rocks in this category! I mean, look at it:
All the Flipsiders games look like cassette tapes. Cassette tapes were what people listened to music to before CDs. But I digress.
The game board slides out of the fake tape:
The movers are in a case on the top. They are tiny so if you have big fingers, good luck. These were designed for kids. Fortunately, they're magnetic and stick to the board:
The rules: I have a really messy pdf of the rules. I think I got it from the (what used to be) Milton Bradley site. Anyway, one mover (every Flipsiders had four movers unless I'm mistaken) is your car. The other is your gear shift. The winner is the first to get around the track. It's not complex.
The game: On your turn, you decide first whether you will switch gears up or down. Then you spin the spinner on the front of the tape and read the result(s). The higher the gear, the more spaces you will be able to move. There are no passing zones and crash sites on the board. If you crash, you have to wait to get back into first gear and then start moving again. The higher gear you were in, the longer your wait to get going. That's the gist of it.
Verdict: The game is really simple. It's mostly luck but you do have the choice of switching gears so it's a bit of a gambling game. But the cool format, and the nostalgic aspects, make this a collector's item in my opinion. I don't see myself playing mine (maybe on a long car trip which is what these games are best for) but I don't see myself trading it away either.
I will post a review for Dragon Master ( http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/13239) soon.
