Okay, I'm going to give this a shot. Any interest in a game of Ghost Stories? I'll act as GM; I've got a cobbled-together board on Photoshop ready. It's nothing amazingly pretty, but it will work. Anyone interested? First four takers are in. I'll randomly assign roles from there. I ask that you are able to check in at least once every 24 hours on a pretty consistent basis, and I'd like to make it about 1 turn a day, so please try not to over-discuss turns for longer than that amount of time.
In order to not cause any serious copyright infringement issues, I ask that only people who own Ghost Stories apply. I will only be using the card number and title for ghosts, not providing their entire specs, in order to ensure this is met. (This was the requirement that Fantasy Flight made for the BSG PBEM games, and I think it's fair, so I'm sticking to it for this game.)
Also, when you sign up, indicate what difficulty level you would like to play at. My inclination is Nightmare (3 Qi, 3 Haunts, 4 Wu-Fengs), which is my group's usual, but I'll let you all cast a vote on this.
So... any takers?

Awesome! I own Ghost Stories and would love to play.
EDIT: I don't really care about the difficulty. Whatever is fine with me.

I'm interested.
Are you using the original rules or version 1.2 posted in the BGG files sections? I have no level preference.

Sweet, two in now.
That's an interesting question. I just went and read the 1.2 rules (didn't know they existed), and I can't appear to find any differences in rules. I think a few sentences have been reworded to be more clear, but I didn't see any rule changes, at least as far as I remember and play them (maybe if I went through sentence-by-sentence with my copy). Is there any rule in particular you were thinking of?

Yeah, there are two. One is a carryover from the original version and the second appears to be completely new.
[1] Page 8. Yellow Taoist 1. Enfeeblement Mantra "...If the monk loses his power, remove the Enfeeblement Mantra token from the game..."
This is an unfortunate carryover from the original rules, but I think Antoine has ruled that when the Yellow Taoist gets his power back, the Enfeeblement Mantra token is returned, i.e., it is not removed fromt the game.
[2] Page 5. Step 2 Board Overruns? "...If all 3 ghost spaces on his board are occupied at the begining of his turn..."
In the original rules, this sentence stated (Page 4) "...If all 3 ghost spaces on his board are occupied..." It is possible for all 3 ghost spaces not to be filled at the beginning of a Taoist player's turn, yet be filled before Step 2 occurs.

I see, thanks for pointing those out to me! [1] was the ruling I had always used--I read it in one of his clarifications, I guess (and, yes, he ruled that the E token is returned to the Yellow Monk when the Yellow Power is returned). I wasn't aware of [2], though, and had played it wrong previously. But I'm happy to start playing it correctly now. So, yes, we'll be using v. 1.2 of the rules, then.

While we wait for #4, if everyone could GM me an E-mail address where I could reach you, that'd be great. Just in case something pops up where someone disappears or I can't get on BGG or something.

I'll be dropping you all an E-mail shortly just so you have my address, as well. Would we like to wait for a fourth player, or begin preparing ourselves to play now? If the latter, would you prefer to have a dummy fourth player that is controlled by group consensus or that you take turns playing, or the official 3-player rules with power tokens? I shouldn't have too much trouble sticking those into the Photoshop board, as well, if I need to.

Nah, I know the order of the ghosts in my Excel Sheet of Doom (TM), so it'd be unfair.
But...

Excellent. *Monty Burns fingers.*
Well, without further ado then, I've randomly generated turn order and character draws and powers.
In turn order: AgingOne/Knepper: Blue Monk with Second Wind (activate tile twice or exorcise twice) seiyaaa/Seiya: Ren Monk with Dance of the Peaks (flying: no Dispatcher power this game ) sydwys8/Kempe: Yellow Monk with Bottomless Pockets (get a Tao before moving) lydon/Oliver: Green Monk with Gods' Favorite (may reroll Exorcism dice and Curse die)
Last chance to say no to Nightmare level now that you've seen your powers. I'll be putting up the board in a minute: I want to fix the way my Buddhas and Haunting Figures look first, because right now I have Smiley and Angry Faces and I don't think that looks cool enough.

Game on!
So, a few book-keeping things before we start:
1.) Double-checking that Nightmare is good for everyone before I put Wu-Fengs in my Excel sheet of ghosts.
2.) As you can see, I've numbered the spots on the mat, as well as the village tiles. This will make it easier to declare where ghosts are being placed (E.g. G1 to put it on spot 1 on the Green mat, B3 to put it on the 3rd spot on the blue mat, etc.), and can help clarify movement, as well (you can say you're moving to Village Tile #, if you can't remember the name). These aren't strict rules, but may help reduce confusion.
3.) After some thought, I'll be placing the Resistance and the Middle-Stone ability on each Ghost as it's placed on the board, because that sort of info is too important to force people to look it up constantly. I'll also add the Right-stone abilities in text below the image, where appropriate, in order to help. I see that there's a VASSAL module of the game already, so, frankly, I figure if the publisher has problems with this info being used to play online games, they would've raised a fit about that by now, so I'm not as concerned about treading on toes with this info.
4.) I'm going to assume that all monks are willing to share Tao for exorcism purposes, so if someone's trying to kill a ghost and uses your Tao for it, I'm going to accept it unless told otherwise ahead of time. This is to keep the game moving smoothly.
5.) I totally encourage discussion; this is a co-op game, after all! Please bold-face your Move (can be none) and Action (activate Village Tile or Exorcise).
6.) When you declare your intent to exorcise, it would be helpful how much of your Tao you would be willing to spend on exorcising. Not necessary, but keeps me from having to wait for your approval after I give the die roll.
I... think that's everything. I've created a Geeklist for the game, to give a turn-by-turn summary, much like the BSG games. You may want to subscribe to it so you can keep easy track of pictures as they're updated.

I have not played "Nightmare" but have no preference. However, as I am the Start Player, and have the ability to double-tap village tiles, perhaps we should discuss our strategy?

If you get two Buddhas, can you deploy both on your next turn? Or is it only one at a time, I forget.

In a corner you can drop both at the same time, if both corner fields are ghost-less. But thats more a thing David with the Blue Taoist should remember

Alright, well, sounds like the only overwhelming preference is for Nightmare.
So let's do it. I'll start another game if you don't last too long.
The quiet in the village has been unbroken for decades, and people have grown complacent. But the Fat-Si are ever-watchful. They know that the day will come when evil will rise and reach out its icy hand. They have trained their bodies for such a day, prayed and honed their minds.
The scent of death is on the winds this evening, and the moon shines red, as if soaked in the blood of the fallen. It is time. The monks gather in front of the Herbalists shop, and nod quietly to one another. They are ready.
A Lich draws near! (#11, Resistance YYYY, Left Stone empty, Middle Stone Curse Die, Right Stone Qi or Yin-Yang).
Aging One, please choose whether the lich goes to Y1, Y2, Y3, and then, when you are ready, state your move and your action.

Li-Don tilts his head: "I second Sei-Yaaas suggestions. Oh Aging One, perhaps we should put our faith into the hands of buddah." He picks up his jian and slowly rises, cleaning his green robes from dust with a few quick strokes.

Aging One: Places the Lich Ghost onto Y2.
Moves to Village Tile 4 (Buddist Temple).
Action 1: requests help from Buddhist Temple (takes Buddha figurine)
Action 2: requests help from Buddhist Temple (takes Buddha figurine)
I'm not sure whether this is a better move/action combo than the Herbalist's Village Tile 5. For optimal use next turn, we must keep either B1/G1 or G3/Y1 clear of ghosts. The B1/G1 placement would put me in a position to move more dangerous ghosts onto the Buddhas and then move one/two brother/sister Taoist(s) to better village tiles?
