Hiya all,
I'm returning to my roots as a hobby computer programmer to knock up a computer game version of Sumeria.
I intend to do it in stages, initially making a version that can be played on a single computer in real-time, then moving up to an online version, either real-time or off-line.
I'm looking for some people to help test the game for me. If you're interested please reply below and subscribe to this thread - I'll post links to new versions here. It'll be a .Net app for Windows in the first instance.
Cheers,
Jack

Hiya all,
Thanks for all the offers of help - much appreciated. Experience with the game is not necessary as part of the testing is to see how people who don't know the game respond to the computer app.
@JAE: Yes, it's been a while since I've programmed professionally (my last 'real' job was project management not coding) so I'm a bit rusty. All advice gratefully accepted
Cheers,
Jack

Looks great so far Jack.
Just to be clear, I'm interested in testing the game. I have the board game and would love to play the computer version.

I don't run Windows, but I'd like to help test ;-) I'm hoping it'll run under Mono on Linux.

If you have a version that runs on a Mac, I can help.

Hiya Russ,
It might! I may need to do some work to get that working though.

Hiya Andrew,
I don't know if there's a .Net client (like Mono) for Macs, so I guess it all depends on that. I don't have a Mac of my own, so I can't test it

Out of curiosity, has the game designer and/or the puplisher given his/their permission for this?

I may need to do some work to get that working though. I've run a few bits of .net software under mono without issue. I'll try your releases as-is and let you know how I get on. You can decide from there whether or not it's worth the extra effort to get it working (if it doesn't work out of the box), and I'm happy to give you any information I can to help get it working.

The first version of the Sumeria computer game is now available (ish!) on my website: http://www.reivergames.co.uk/Sumeria/SumeriaSetup.msi with any luck if you download that MSI file and then run it, it will install Sumeria on your computer.
First a few provisos. This is a very early version to get some feedback about the user interface - very little actually works yet. What does work:
* You can install it (requires v1.1 of the .Net Framework) * You can start a new game from the Game menu * You can choose the number of players, their names and the colours they play * You can highlight a state by moving the mouse over its tile * You can set up the game by seeding the board with the appropriate number of traders.
What doesn't work? Anything else! Most notably you can't play the game. There's no AI and you can't get the game to work across the internet with remote players - it's three or four humans around the one computer.
The next release will incorporate feedback on this one and allow you to play the game on a single machine with no AI.
I'd really appreciate any feedback you have on what I've done so far.
