(Warning - german who tries to write his first session report in english!!!)

Castle Panic arrived yesterday, and my girlfriend and me played a two-player game in the evening. Since we both love cooperative games, we tried the full cooperative version, without an overlord player, and without competing for the master slayer title, which normally is awarded to the player who slays the most monsters.

Ok, the game was set up quickly, and our nice castle with six towers and six strong walls sat there peacefully in the center of the field. But the peace did not last very long, as the first six starting monsters rushed towards it!

Our start was very nice, we defeated most of the monsters before they reached the castle walls. Only these giant boulders surprised us, as they came in quick succession, and destroyed the first tower without giving us much time to react and rebuild the walls. And, sadly, not even one monster was crushed by their own boulders... I waited for it since I read about this possibility in the rules.

The first evil hero arrived at the battlefield - the strong troll mage, who motivates the whole army to move another step as soon as he arrives! Damn, there goes another tower - we planned to slay a troll with two swordsman cards next round, but now he destroyed one tower and was out of reach for our swordsman, as there are only very few cards that can target monsters in the inner castle ring. Luckily, we drew one of them, the barbarian, and defeated the troll before he could destroy even another tower!

Then the game was more or less calm again, we rebuilt some walls and had the monsters pretty much under control, and there were not that many monsters left! We will win the game! Weeee!!!

My girlfriend asked me: "How many evil heroes are there, by the way?"
"Three more to come."
"Uh-oh... I guess they all come together. Haha!"

Damn. She was right. Our next draw of two monster tokens were:

First token: Evil Hero - Orc Warlord. Okay, not a big deal, he arrived at an empty flank, and motivated only himself to move another step.

Second token: Evil Hero - Goblin King. Args! He brought 3 additional monsters with him!

Third token: Evil Hero - Evil Healer! Nooooooo! He heald all monsters on the battlefield, and there were many wounded monsters available.

Fourth token: Ordinary Troll. Well, okay.

Fifth token: Draw 4 monster tokens. Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!
(These 4 tokens were 4 normal monsters)

8 monsters in one round!!!

I guess THIS gives this game the name "Castle PANIC"!!! With the help of the barbarian, many rebuilt walls and one "Nice Shot", which slays one monster completely if you play it with a normal "hit" card, we defeated almost all enemies, but were down to only one last tower!

The last monster of the game dodged our nice fortified wall (that would have killed him) with the help of the last monster token, which allowed him to move counterclockwise to the next lane - of course, there was no castle wall, and we did not have any cards to target him there. Grrrrrr!

We had two turns to defeat this monster in the inner circle of the castle, then it would have destroyed the last tower. Lucky again - I drew "Drive him Back", which throws one monster out of the castle and back in the woods. Our archers did the rest.

WIN!!! Wow, that was close, and really lots of fun!

I wonder if the game keeps this tension after some games. If not, I will read the section "More Panic!" in the rulebook again...

Yes, very good report.

My experiences with Castle Panic have been about the same - just when you think you're safe something nasty pops out at you!

Well done, Thomas, on three counts:

Your English is excellent.

Your game report is entertaining and has sealed my intention to buy this game.

You have either excellent taste, or good fortune, in choosing a girlfriend who happily plays such games with you.

Congratulations on all three.

Now, dude, to find MY castle . . . .
