This is a standard 6-player base game with normal sympathizer rules using the standard PBF protocols. If this is your first PBF game, I strongly recommend reading through at least one other game thread to get a feel for the format.
Per the agreement with Fantasy Flight Games that makes these PBF games possible, all players must own a physical copy of the game. Cards will be referred to only by title.
Post Typography * Normal text for discussions, etc. * Italics for flavor text/fluff. This is optional, but encouraged. * Bold for in-game moves and actions. I won't process any decisions/actions unless bolded in the thread or I receive them in Geekmail.
Images Please use images in your post to identify your character when you post. It helps people keep track of who everyone is. An excellent gallery of images is available here. Please refrain from using excessively large pictures (only occasionally for role-playing); some thin banners are available here (use the "medium" option to display them).
Subscribe to the thread! I will usually refer to everyone by their character name. For the sake of game speed, COs (Conditional Orders) are a great way to keep things moving along unless you check in frequently. I will not wait for you to use your Once-Per-Game unless you say so or someone else brings it up. If you’re going to interrupt in favor of the Cylons please leave a CO beforehand, since I’m not going to check specifically for this every time there’s an attack.
About me I have played BSG about a dozen times, am in my current second PBF game, and this is my first attempt at moderating a PBF game.
I am located in Luxembourg (which is UTC+2 until 25th October, then UTC+1). Note that I'll be offline from 23rd to 27th October because I'm visiting Essen.
Once everyone has checked in and our crew is full, I will randomize player order and we will select characters. Note that if the players can be divided into rough "blocks" according to time zone (e.g. Americas, Europe/Africa, Middle East, Far East/Australia), I will do so, going east to west, in order to minimize downtime.
For me, one of the better and most memorable intros from my childhood, up there with Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, He-Man, Transformers, M.A.S.K etc :)
Hehe, it's been ages since I watched those on the french stations. I do admit though that nowadays I only remember parts of the theme song and some of the characters.
I wanted a name that is at least halfway "in theme". And if some people don't get the reference, well, there are some games where I don't get the reference either (GC-161, WWAD, ???).
There are people with bumber stickers on there car that say WWJD(What would Jesus do). At least here in the states, not sure if its an international thing, probably not. So its a play off that.
I am reeling a bit. We just finished BSG18 a couple of hours ago (Cylons won), and already I seem to be at the top of the list. Well, I had tremendous fun with the previous game, so of course I am in!
* I've invited two people that were marked as on vacation (marked (V)), but have logged on recently. They will not earn asterisks if they decline or don't answer. * One spot is reserved for Peacefishy, depending on if he's needed as an alternate in BSG 30 or not. * I've elected to skip Radule and Sorsa, who got an asterisk for BSG 30. Since this game starts so shortly after, I wanted to give them a chance to "return to BGG" and not slap a second asterisk on them right afterwards.
I am accepting the challenge to play again with my former co player Pieter... Maybe I get the win this time.
Nice to have you, Ioannis. I thought you were great as Roslin in game 18. Just the right amount of aloofness and distantiation. I am eager to see who we're going to incorporate next.
And to other players: we were the only ones invited from BSG18 (at least until now), so rest assured that this is not going to be a recap of that game.
Welcome, everyone. Gawain will probably reply soon, as well, and tomorrow we'll know whether Peacefishy will join us or #30. So we can proceed to character choice pretty quickly.
Accepted and reporting for duty! First time PBF'er, but I own the game (i.e. our club owns the game but we keep it at my house) and have played it ten or so times. Looking very much forward to it :) Will try to RP as much as possible as well. I have to mention though that I haven't actually seen all of BSG yet. I'm near half into S03. So please no spoilers? :) Thanks, and good luck to everyone!
EDIT: Forgot to ask, this is BSG only, right? No Pegasus? 'cause I don't own that.
Actually we have to fear the worst for the crew of the Pegasus, since the attacks we have not heard anything on the whereabouts from any survivors of civilian ships we have picked up. We have to assume that all hands were lost.
Standard Game it is according to the initial post I hope
We now have Alain from Luxembourg, Tor from Norway, Ioannis from Greece, Acenoid from Germany, Dave from the US, and myself, from The Netherlands. If the next player from this list is added to the team, that will be Daniel, who is from Germany (who was also in game 18, and is a lot of fun to play with). This means that except for Dave, everyone is more or less in the same timezone.
Game 18, which Ioannis and I played in, was the first BSG game that was limited to Europeans. I asked for that, because I was afraid of being left out of discussions between US players. In game 31, it might seem that Dave is going to be in the position I was afraid of being in.
As for game 18, I think it being situated exclusively in Europe went well. We were all online during the evenings. What would usually happen is that early in the morning we would see a flurry of short posts, then it would be silent during the day, and between 20.00 and 01.00 the game would commence. Discussions, when they took place, usually went efficiently, and there was a clear sense of immersion (at least for me). However, sometimes a player was offline for a whole day, which held up the game a bit.
What I felt after game 18 was that it is a good idea to limit players to a few timezones which are close together, but that is certainly no guarantee to get the game to speed forward. One slow player, or a player who has a different rhythm from the others, will hold up the game just the same.
I actually think that it is not necessarily going to be a problem for Dave that the others are in different timezones. It is easier for a US player to mix with a group of Europeans than vice versa, because it will be afternoon/early evening in the US when it is late evening/night in Europe, so Dave will be awake when discussions take place. However, his nights will be silent.
Personally, I am curious to see how the flow of this game will differ from game 18.
And yes, I have a tendency to write long posts. Sorry about that...

Yes, this is a base game without Pegasus. I'm waiting for the German edition of Pegasus. Concerning timezones, if we all play quickly (and judging from the signing up speed, it will be the case) it shouldn't be much of an issue. I play in BSG #17 and 17a, and I'm the only European there. But we all play quickly and there's not much downtime. Plus, there's more time for a little role-playing . And as Pieter mentioned, it won't be as problematic for an American playing with Europeans.
I'm more than happy to accept the invitation to serve aboard the Ulysses (I watched that show a lot as a kid). A little caveat, I will be away the week before Essen (15th to 25th) and will probably not have a lot of opportunities for internet access (at least I assume getting married will keep me occupied...). I'm also thrilled to see both Ioannis and Pieter back in a game with me (you can only hope Pieter and I don't get to be the cylons again )

I am glad to see you again, Daniel. And congratulations!
Your honeymoon should probably not pose a problem during the game, as we will be on hold during Essen anyway: Alain is going to be in Essen, and I will be there too for a few days. Probably BGG will lapse into silence at that time.
Garou joined us as the last player. Note that he'll be offline for 10 days in October for his honeymoon and Essen. Since some of us already go to Essen, I don't see a problem for a break there.
Player order Gawain Flyboy Connor Acenoid Garou djgutierrez77 Hidamiyiagi
Gawain, please choose a character. The following players please also post your starting hand (COs are possible if you want different hands depending on loyalty or present players)
Could someone of you please edit the wiki? This is kinda hard on the iPhone since Internet is down at our workplace. Thanks
