Hi folks,
after explaining for two days the new edition of A la carte in Essen (Friday and Sunday), I'm now curious which of you geeks I may have explained the game.
I was at booth 11-54 (Moskito-Spiele) dressed with a green "Heidelbärger" vest and this badge: together with designer of "a la carte" Karl-Heinz Schmiel (the cook),
I met Doug and Shelley there (btw: May I have your nicks for my geekbuddy-list? Regards - your Aargh!Tect-Santa ) - later Aldie, Derk, etc at the BGG-booth,
but whom did I also meet or explain the game?
regards

Not me, because we bought it on Saturday.
Or rather, my wife bought it after exclaiming "It's so cute!".
Sadly we did not think to actually play it in Essen and now I see that it is significantly different from the original version. (Looks like an improvement, though!)
My wife knows a bit of German, so if a translation of the new rules does not appear here in a few days, we may try one ourselves.

Hi Kevin,
I know from Heidelberger Spieleverlag, that English and French rules are about to come in maybe 2 or 3 weeks, then you may find them here (Maybe then there's a link to English/French rules download)
If you manage it to translate them on your own, it's ok, if not, feel free to ask me. In the meantime I know them by heart

Hey, that's interesting! I explained the game at Heidelberger's in hall 9 on thursday
Also wore a green "HEIDELBÄrger" vest plus a yellow Heidelbärger shirt and a cook's hat.

Good to know, that there will be English rules coming... I bought this masterpiece at Essen, but didn't play it there. Yesterday, when I finally got the old rules from here I realized as well, that there has been made some rules changes... so, now I'm just waiting for these newer rules as well.

I watched it being played but did not get a demo: I did buy it though as it just looks so amusingly cool!

Good choice
- I don't know how many visitors I explained the game, it doesn't matter, where they came from: Japonese, French, American, German, ... but one that all had in common - they all had a lot of fun (including me )

The changes from the older edition include a crepes suzette, a new meal without the need to add spices, instead you have to flip it in your pan. You are also able to collect stars for preparing a perfect meal (right temperature, exactly the right amount of spices without any additional salt etc.). The first player to achieve his third star instantly wins the game. So this is an alternative victory condition where victory points are not counted at all.

Markus,
I bought a copy after it was explained to me. The rules are simple enough that I didnt mind it wasnt in english. It will be nice, however, to see the english rules when they are released!
Your game was truely the suprise of the entire show for me. Just in that small corner where you guys were, there was constantly a crowd each time I walked passed. We finally decided to stop and try though we dont speak german. You guys did an amazing job of explaining the game in english and I bought a copy first thing on Friday. Great job and I wish further sucess with this game.

I was quite surprised to see this old game get a re-release, and with such stunning production values.
I don't suppose there's any chance of a new, similarly improved version of Packen Wir's in our future?
