Hi All,

The second edition rules are now available on the JKLM Games website (http://www.jklmgames.com/gamessin.php?game=7).

If you spot any errors, please shout out, so we can correct them before they go to print.

David.

Quick question: are there intended to be functional differences in the rules?

Here is what the 2nd Edition rules say:

Quote:
The second edition
A few changes have been made in this, the second edition of this game. These are a result of feedback from players, and more extensive playing than was previously available before the first edition was printed.

Notes on how to play the original game are included at the end of these rules.

The purpose of the changes is to simplify game play and provide greater opportunities to develop the western half of the board. They consist of an alternative board with three additional hexes, two additional russet hexes for use with this board only, and one rule change.

... [and later on] ...

Playing the Original Game:
If you want to play the game using the original rules, use the original map and play as per above with the following amendments:
· Use the side of the board with fewer hexes and not featuring Totland.
· Small stations may not be ignored on company runs. Halts may still be ignored, however.

See the previous reply. All I'll add is, the first edition is completely playable with a second edition set. You just have to flip the board, and remove a couple of tiles.

Will there be a PDF or some other support available for owners of the first edition so we can convert the board over if we want to play with the new rules?

Unfortunately you need new tiles as well as a new board, so it's not that simple.

I'm looking into whether we can provide an upgrade kit.

Any more thoughts on timeframe while we're all salivating over the board?

I can't speak for other owners, but the need for tiles isn't a particularly big problem for me as I could have any needed tiles printed out on index stock, hand cut them, and be perfectly fine with it. The same way that I wouldn't have a problem printing out changes to the board on index and then just having them in the box to overlay on the existing map if we wanted to play with the newer board.

If JKLM is willing to issue an upgrade kit then I would happily buy that though, and I'm glad to hear that you guys are considering options like this.

I suggest a posted PDF of the map extensions and additional tiles would be more than enough.

I would be happy with these too.

Btw 1860 is my all-time favorites of 18xx-games. Nice to see it reprinted.

Likewise. We played a 2-player game yesterday. An utterly delightful game with 6 companies variously thrown directorless and insolvent or both over the course of the game and two bankrupt companies. 1860 remains the only 18xx I know of that plays well with just two players (and is equally good with 3 players).
