There are a lot of good restaurants within 10 minutes drive
of BGG Con. I put together a Google map with my suggestion,
trying to point out one or two of my favorites for each
type of food. I know its not complete, but its a start.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=1182165346...

Let me also mention a couple of major areas.

Grapevine - take 114 West 5 miles. Exit for Grapevine Main St.
Then north or south on Main or continut to the next intersection
on the access road, Willian D Tate and go left. Lots of good
and familiar restaurants at these interections or 1/2 mile
North in Grapevine.

Southlake - take 114 West 10 miles, exit N Kimball Ave
go South and then West on Southlake Blvd. A new are with
lots of restaurants.

I-635 - go North from the hotel 1/2 miles (several routes)
to I-635, going East and get off at Belt Line or MacArthur.
Lots of good places.

Irving is East on 114 and has a good reputation for food, but
I am not knowledgeable in that area.

I hope there will be a lot of locals that will help people
get out to eat this year.

This list was built with input from last year's list by
Mike Cooper, and help from Steven Sheasby and Mark Swenholt.

If you are willing to drive to Southlake, you have just hit the jackpot in terms of options, but the real gems are a little tucked away. What's the general radius you're going for on your map? I know of a few spots south in Arlington and east in Las Colinas.

I've never had anyone want to edit any of my maps, so
I'll have to figure out how to get you the info this evening.

Understand I'd like to keep it to 2-3 of the best restaurants
for each type of food: pizza, indian, tex-mex, hamburger, steak,
italian, thai, ???

Thanks.

(Most of my friends at in the North Dallas & Plano area, and
so have little experience with the Irving restaurants.

Las Colinas is less than 5 miles (I'd guess) so
suggestions there would be good.

Arlington, OTOH, is about 20 miles and I wouldn't
try to direct a visitor that far away unless
they were after something specific.
But that's just me.

I used to work in the Las Colinas area, so I am familiar with some of the restaurants in that area. Not sure what 'best' means (problem with items of taste), but I can send you restaurants and you can decide if they fit the profile. In fact, that might be better than trying to add me to the map. Ill just list them here in this thread.

Is there a Tony Roma's nearby? Google seemed to think there was one in Grapevine(?), but that it was closed.

Check out the Hard 8 off of 635 & Freeport parkway. It gives any out-of-towners a feel for TX BBQ. Be careful, they charge by the pound, and people tend to over-order.

And it is already on the list! Good jorb.

I would suggest making some marker changes. Make the hotel one color, burgers one color, pizza another. Just makes it a lot easier to read.

A strict diet of Denny's grand slams and What-A-Burger has done me good the past couple of years.

When we were downtown, it was always that Irish Pub! I miss that place...

Don't forget Bone Daddy's. It's not bad BBQ and makes Hooters look like a kindergarden classroom. I don't remember exactly how far away it is, but I'm sure it's less than 10 minutes.

I put Bone Daddy's along the same lines as Chilis, but for some reason, it tastes a lot better than that...maybe it has to do with scantily clothed women taking your order. To their credit, they are the only restaurant I know of that serves beer can chicken.

Its in Grapevine, not too far from the con. Closer than some of the other places on the map. If it's not there when I go to add more stuff, Ill put it on...provided it falls into the "2-3 of the best restaurants
for each type of food: pizza, indian, tex-mex, hamburger, steak,
italian, thai, ???" category.

Interesting, several of the places we discovered last year are on the list. Hard 8, Saltgrass, and Krogers.

Just add it to the BGG Con Google Wave. Then edit all you want.

Shhhh. Super secret fantastic place to eat.

Cliff's Star Neighborhood Grille
1900 S Main St # 100, Grapevine, TX
(817) 416-0608

(Basement of a furnature store you say? Yes, but good food and lots of it for reasonable price.)

Fair note, we used to go to Cliffs the following location, but Stacy's is no longer there I am told. So I am a little confused as they say they have been at the location above for years, so not sure.

Stacy Furniture & Accessories
280 Commerce St, Southlake, TX‎ - (817) 481-1564

Any chance you could add Cliffs Star to the google map? I cannot figure out how to do it.

I am sorry to cause trouble, but I think google is mapping this wrong, wrong, wrong. Here is their web site, with their same address. But when you click Contacts, and "Print Large Map" it shows a different location, which is south of 114 on main, and more where I remember it. You go North from the hotel, past the airport, 2nd main exit, cross over the bridge to the left (south) and it is on the right in the White building with the furniture store. Can you move the marker to match their map? I think that is more accurate as I recall.

I was able to get Google Maps to change the location for Cliff's.
(The move won't take place immediately.
In the process I had to add a new entry and remove Ikiru's.

Let me know if this is closer.
