3nd NESTORGAMES game design contest: Minigames.
Hi, all.
Welcome to the 3nd NESTORGAMES game design contest. Winner gets published (if we both reach an agreement).
Here are the rules:
1. Deadline is jan-04-2010
2. The game must use the following format (Format 4: Minigame):
- Maximum weight = 52 grams. - If you use a board (you don't need to), it must be this pad:
It weights 23 grams, and it's 9x9 cm. Rounded corners.
- Other components: Follow the weight guidelines of previous formats (on my website; submissions section).
- Rulesheets: The rules must fit in a double sided 9x18 sheet. (Around 1,5 grams)
- Don't worry about the case/bag. It is not needed.
3. The game must be added to the bgg database.
4. The game must be added to the 3nd NESTORGAMES design contest geeklist: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/47870.
5. It can be abstract, german-style, ameritrash or whatever. However, themed games sell more.
6. Rules must be clearly written and uploaded in PDF format (english only) to the bgg page for the game. Nice documentation helps. Images help. Turn examples help. Cool artwork helps.
7. Already existing games in the database are also accepted, but innovative games are greatly appreciated.
8. Plagiarism will be banned.
9. Winner gets published (if we both reach an agreement). Some non winners could be published too.
10. NESTORGAMES reserves the rights to change anything about the published game/s. This just means that the final product may be different from the original, due to production issues.
11. You can comment the entries in this thread.
12. Ask your questions here. Do not send messages to the NESTORGAMES e-mail about this contest.
13. Not following these rules may result in not considering your game for evaluation.
14. I may change these rules at any moment. (I can update/add/explain the rules if needed).
15. One person can submit more than one game.
16. Of course I'm paying royalties.
17. You MUST calculate the total weight and show this result clearly somewhere.
Good luck everybody!
Thank you!
EDIT: I plan to release a collection of mini-games, so there could be some of them from this contest
EDIT: End! Contest closed to new entries. Please vote for the ones you like the most by giving them a "thumb up" here:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/47870
Please thumb up this list too! Thank you!
The winner will be selected from those that have the most "thumbs up".
Once and if the winner is published (this is, if we reach an agreement), I will randomly pick a geekuser among the ones that gave this list a "thumb up" and he/she will receive a free copy.
Deadline for voting is jan-20-2010.
Good luck to the finalists!
EDIT:
And the winner is... Celtic! by Cameron Browne.
Thank you everybody!

Re: 3rd NESTORGAMES game design contest: Minigames.
Format 3 is a larger format. I will hopefuly release 2 games in this format early next year.
So as Format 3 is already developed (but not published), I've named this one "Format 4".

Hi there!
I', afraid the details of Format 4 are not explained in your webpage, www.nestorgames.com, but only Format 1 and 2 appear at the moment.
Thanks for the help!

Format 4 is not on my website, but here on the rules. As it is similar to the previous formats, there should be no problem for the participants.
Anyway, please feel free to ask anything.

Re: 3rd NESTORGAMES game design contest: Minigames.
If we use the pad can we print on it or is the pad considered complete. If a design is allowable can it be double sided.
Is the pad laminated cardboard?(I don't know how to say this correctly) Is is possible to write on the pad and wipe off?
Is the pad's weight included in the weight limit?
PS I like these competitions with restrictions, It really gets the mind working.

Not sure if I understand your questions.
The board is printed on the pad (just like a normal board, but small). No double sided. It is not laminated (it is like cotton). If you write on it, you can't wipe it of.

Yes. If you use the pad, then you have 29 grams left for the other components.

I love them!

Re: 3rd NESTORGAMES game design contest: Minigames.
Hi Nestor,
Is the shape of the board a deciding factor or just its size, e.g. would a hexagonal board be okay if its footprint fell within your 9x9 square with rounded corners?

Hi, Cameron.
The pad is the surface where you print the board. So it can be any shape as long as it can be printed inside the pad.

Hi everybody.
My name's Fernando and I'm new here. After seeing the games one can find by browsing this web I think I'm becoming a fan. About the contest... very interesting! I have a little game somewhere that probably fits. I'll upload it as soon as I can.
See you.

Re: 3rd NESTORGAMES game design contest: Minigames.
It's mandatory to upload the rules in PDF format?
I've submited the rules of One-Time Path in the "description" field but the game is simple and the rules are pretty clear.
I think it should be a great mini-game if it was if properly themed.

It is ok to add the rules to the "description".
If you are going to add the game to the list, please give a proper component list (notice that a glass is quite heavy for the format).

Re: 3rd NESTORGAMES game design contest: Minigames.
An animal figure (a cat?) instead of a glass, the obvious animal food (mice?) instead of coins and the objective of the game completly switched: now you want to attract the animal to you in order to be the favorite of your pet... The 5 tiles board could be printed over a single large tile or made truly modular. Plus a Dice... I think it could fit.
