I have been itching to delve into this series for quite a while now. I had gotten the impression that Guilford might be the best one to start out with. However, Guilford seems nearly impossible to find right now and, so far as I can tell, GMT has no near-term plan to do a reprint.
Would Saratoga be another good choice as an introduction to this series?
Also, I was wondering how well this game series lends itself to solitaire play. What have been your experiences?
Thanks, Eric

This was my first game of the series and I had no problem playing it solitaire. There were rules for solitaire in one of the recent C3is.

This was also my first game in this excellent series, and it solos pretty well. The series uses tactics chits to affect combat, but this is not an impediment to solitaire play. A recent C3i issue has rules for solo play with the tactics chits, but you can certainly do without.

Saratoga is a great starting point.

I am in the middle of playing this game solitaire.
The rules in C3i for handling the tactics chits are workable, but a little clumsy in my opinion.
I have modified the system for smoother use, but because it is based on the C3i system I trying to get permission from GMT before I post them on BGG.

UPDATE
As the posts on this thread were a few years old, I thought I'd mention here that the C3i reference to the solitaire chart which helps choose the Tactics Chit/Card during Close Cambat is now included with the series game, Germantown.
