hi,

i was wondering about the rules of watson. I was playing mr jack online and after the end of turn 4 but before jack declared his visibility state, the suspect were watson and miss stealthy. but after jack declared it automatically, miss stealthy suddenly became innocent.

my question is, shouldn't both miss stealthy and watson were in the dark hence they should still be suspects in turn 5? if you look at the screencaptured that i post, watson was next to bert and the direction of the lantern was facing bert. i thought the rule clearly says that when watson is adjacent to any character with his direction of light facing him that makes that character becomes visible but not watson himself?

am i right? if so then, that means there was a bug with the program?

beacuse of this my friend got lucky and won the game :D

Watsons light has nothing to do with it! Watson is simply visible because he is standing next to another character

Otherwise you're right about his light not lighting himself, but he is not blinding the others with it...

When Watson is adjacent to another character, he is visible, like normal. Because he is visible just by virtue of being next to Bert, his lantern does not come into consideration.

The effect of Watson's lantern is that it can make characters that are NOT adjacent to Watson or any other character or gaslight visible if the lantern is headed in that direction. The lantern does not affect in any way any character that is adjacent to Watson.

The special rule about Watson comes into play in situations like the following. Suppose Watson was on k11, and also suppose that there was no light on h8 (I'm obviously referring to the coordinates in the online game). If Watson's lantern was directed toward Bert, this makes Bert visible, while it does not affect the status of Watson.

I hope this helps!

Although from a theme perspective, it would sort of make sense that Watson's light might blind an adjacent character so that Watson himself is not visible. But that would be a variant :)
