Hello!
I am happy to announce my next self-published game, Caption if You Can!.
Caption If You Can! is my first foray into party games, and can best be described as a cross between Balderdash and all those caption contests that magazines and websites run. You know, where people have to come up with captions for a funny or interesting photo.
If this sounds at all interesting to you, and you would like to even win a free copy of the game, then please read on!
The Blurb
Create captions for funny photos and vote on your favourites!
Caption If You Can! is a party game where you and your friends create funny captions for all sorts of weird, wonderful and wacky photographs. Vote for your favourite caption each round, and rake in the points when your friends pick your caption as the best!
For 4-8 players, ages 12+. Playing time: 30-60 minutes.
The game includes: 160 phototgraphs on 80 extra-large cards 200 caption slips 60 scoring gems 8 pencils Rules booklet
Caption If You Can! will be released in mid-December 2009 in an initial limited print run of 100 copies. It will be available for sale at www.adventurelandgames.com and www.boardsandbits.com.
Release Contest
I thought for a release contest, it would be fun to play an online round of the game. This will give people a small taste of how the game works, and should be lots of fun.
When you play Caption If You Can! in person, a round goes like this: First a new photo card is drawn and all the players have a look at it. Everyone thinks up a caption for the photo and writes it on one of their caption slips, along with their name, and passes it to the player designated 'the reader' for that round. S/He then reads out all the captions, without revealing who wrote which. Everyone laughs! Each player (except the reader) then votes for their favourite caption. Each player then receives one scoring gem for every vote they received. After every player has had a turn reading, the player with the most gems wins!
So here is how this online round will work:
Below you will see one of the photograph cards from the game. All you need to do is come up with a funny caption for this photo - it could in the form of a description, a quotation, a question, a headline - any short piece of text which will bring this photo to life! Once you have come up with your caption, simply GeekMail it to me with the subject "Caption If You Can!" and you are entered. Only one entry per person please.
I will be accepting entries until Friday, December 4th at 5pm Australian Eastern time. Then I will post a GeekList with my top 8 favourite captions. However, like in the game, these captions will be anonymous - you will not know who wrote what. People will then get a chance to vote on their favourite caption. Voting will be open for another week, and whichever entry has the most votes will win!
The prize is a copy of Caption If You Can! shipped anywhere in the world.
I will also post an update when the game is ready for order.
Thanks for reading! Phil
