Hey Tom. I actually watched this last week as I am considering it for myself and my 10 year old boy.

How would you compare both the learning and play complexity to Magic and perhaps the WoW card game if you know it?

I haven't played the WoW game, but I would put this complexity as the same as Magic. Maybe easier?

You seemed really hyper on that one, Tom. Were you on crack or something?

I think this is on the same level with Magic in that you simply need to pay attention to the cards in order to understand how things work. There are less key words (presently) for one to know, so I think that simplifies things quite a bit.

In our plays, I haven't seen AS MUCH interrupt type cards as you'd see in Magic or WoW:TCG, but I'm sure they're in there. Also, the resource collecting and card drawing mechancis are very easy to learn and get used to and you don't have to worry about getting mana screwed (that's always the one aspect I point to that makes me like WoW:TCG more than Magic).

The first game my brother and I played was a bit slower, but after that first game, we really got into it and really love the game. The mechanics are actually pretty simple.

He really likes the game. I really like the game. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone that may be interested in picking it up.

Only have a minor complaint about the developments (cards put face down into a zone) getting referred to as support cards. Since Support cards are a type of card in the game.

Yes, you were very energetic this time out Tom!

Nice review, this game is now on my radar (which means it's on a bunch of other people's radar too!).

Too bad you missed some of the earlier, in-depth reviews posted here, James, as they would helped get the game on your radar much sooner!

I have been playing this with my (nearly, in one month) 10 year old son and the tactical play he understands fairly well. The metagame of deck design is much harder for him. Then again, deck design is something that even expert CCG players need to work on and comes with experience. With the ready made decks, its not an issue. The expansions will likely necessitate me helping him in deck design, although I have noticed him coming up with card combinations on his own lately.

You said that you attack different parts of the Big card and that was like Battletech CCG. I never got a chance to play the CCG, but this mechanic sounds like MagĀ·Blast (Second Edition). You would defend you mother-ship on 4 different sides and the other players would play cards to try to blow up your defending ships and try to apply 8 pts of damage to your main card. The nice part was that MagBlast is a just a card game.
