As some of you may have been following, I have had a slight bump in the road of making the rule book available. I'm working to remedy that and still expect to make this available before the end of the year.

In the meantime, I've decided to run a little contest to offer up some free copies.

Dire Heroes Contest - What's Wrong with this Picture?

I'll post an image from the game and the first correct posted answer will win a free copy of the rule book.

You may only post once so make sure that what you are posting is your answer.

I'll be posting one item each day for the next few days and will review the answers near the end of the day (5 pm PST) and announce the winner of the day then.

I will be looking for specific answers so though you may think you have spotted something wrong, it may not be wrong or what I am specifically looking for.

Let's start with the cover...What's wrong with this picture?!

Apart from NOT wearing a helmet...and carrying a rifle with a bayonet, crazy ossifers. Stick to the pistol and in the trenches...

edit: letsee...there are flowers, not sure much would be alive in "no-mans land"; but they look good.

German trench coat on with a British officers cap? sad to say my WWI knowledge is lacking here.

The coat appears to be too long. From what I recall, the trench coats in WW1 were shorter. It would be awfully hard to run quickly in that coat.

Just a guess, though...

The wind is blowing the wrong direction. If that is a British soldiers, as it surely is, the wind is at his back as shown by the blowing poppies.
That would be a bad day for the German's to release the gas.gulp
The German's released the gas when the wind was steady towards the British lines.
Since this is the first gas attack, gas masks were not standard issue at the time.
I hope I guessed correctly. I love WW I games and I am looking forward to this one.

Congrats ScottH! You got it! (please send me a PM with your mailing address)

The gas attack came from the German lines so the wind should be blowing the poppies in the other direction.

Good guesses by everyone else.

For the record, there simply were no gas masks developed yet (they were quickly rushed into production after this battle!). Further, the Imperial forces did in fact wear soft caps into battle (how crazy is that) until the Brodie helmet was brought in around 1916.

As for the footwear, while it may not look like he is wearing boots, the Imperial soldier wore boots and puttees so it would give the appearance of no shoes in this silhouette.

Tune in tomorrow for the next chance to win! (posting around 9 am PST).

Thanks Scott, I was happy with how it turned out (even with the slight hiccup of the mailing label). I hope you enjoy the play of it.

Thanks for participating!
