I think for any person that has a strong passion for a hobby there are a hand full of things in the hobby that you love so much it makes everything else in the hobby better. Weather you love to open a box full of wonderful wooden pieces, or spectacular art, or the game play is so compelling you cannot stop thinking about it, or the theme sweeps you away to a different time or world, there is always something special that sets these games apart from all the rest you enjoy.
For me Galaxy Trucker is this game. I understand that this is not the deepest game, and for those who love deep games, this game might not be for you (although I know many people like that and do enjoy this game). There is a good amount of chaos and luck in this game which might cause pure strategists to dislike this game as well.
The theme more than anything else is what sets this game apart for me. I feel like Han Solo loading my ship with random goods navigating my way through space and racing to the end to get the most cash. The adventure along the way is amazing and totally consuming. Whether you are dodging astroids or other ships fire ("hear me baby hold together"), dealing with space pirates, searching abandoned stations for sellable goods, selling abandoned ships to excess crew members, or just firing your engines through open space its constant action.
Before you do any of this you get to put your whole ship together piece by piece with anything you want (or can find) and completely customize your ship and strategy. Do you want to load up on guns, engines, cabins, cargo holds, shields, aliens with strange abilities? Its all up to you ("I made a few special modifications myself, she might not look like much but she's got it where it counts").
This game is all about one thing; fun. Fun. Fun. Fun. Most people I have played with, myself included, could care less if they win or lose. If your ship gets blown in half its hilarious, not just to the other players but you too. "So, which half of your ship do you want to keep?" perhaps the most amusing question I have ever heard while playing a game.
Almost as much as the theme the pieces and art are almost as enjoyable. I love the wooden cubes, the art on the tiles, the tiny tic tak like batteries, and my absolute favorite component ever the little space men. The art throughout is comical and full of flavor. It is somewhat simple (not breath taking like Pillars of the Earth) but it works very well.
CONCLUSION: There is almost nothing I do not like about this game. It is my absolute favorite and is 10 out of 10 for me.

I agree that this is one of the best games out there and almost unchallenged when it comes to pure fun.
I really REALLY urge you to go out 8and do it NOW!) and buy the big expansion box. It adds so much to the game: it's more challenging, more variable, a lot meaner and even more fun, cause you can be almost assured that your ship will get blown to pieces...

Funny I always got a BIG Futurama vibe from it; the zany ragtag delivery team (Fry, Leela, Bender),Corporated Incorporated (Planet Express and the Professor), an alien crew-member (Dr. Zoidberg), plus space aliens/pirates (Lrr via Omicron Persei 8).
Playing the show in the background is a must!

My sentiments exactly. Love the quote from Han Solo. Perfect.

Allow me to chime in with complete agreement. I enjoy deep games and generally dislike games with heavy luck factors, but there is something about this one that I just love, despite the dice, random cards, the mad scramble for good pieces..
I played this recently with the Star Wars soundtrack playing as background music. I had a silly grin on my face for the entire game. Nothing that happened could be bad. Really tough Rough Road cards? Great. Ship flying to pieces? Cool.
