I like elephants. I like how they swing through trees.
I love the new animations. Very cute.
I really need to try this game out, or one of it's earlier PnP versions (Island of D, Dungeon of D). I love a good solitaire system, and this sounds like it's one of the best.
Tom, have you looked at all at the predecessor to this game: The Dungeon of D? It was re-released with some amazingly beautiful artwork (with one or two minor quibbles and has much the same system (although only for one player.) I just printed out a copy from Artscow (going for $10-$25 depending on the coupon you use) and I am extremely pleased with both the quality of the art and the quality of the print job.
The game most closely resembles one of the early pc dungeon crawls, like nethack or rogue. It can be pretty random, but the depth there is very impressive, and, as you noticed in your review, the multi-use card mechanics are very clever.
If you've either got some spare artscow coupons or want to just print it out on cardstock, DoD is, in my opinion, the best in the series so far (pending better production for AoD...)
I'm gonna keep signing my posts so just let it go already.
I'm a big fan of all the "D" games. As far as the art goes, I'd rather have quirky art and solid gameplay mechanics and fun than stunning art. This way you can still use that old thing called imagination! I was truly inpressed by the multi card use mechanics and have had a ton of fun playing these games and hope the series continues! Glad you had some fun with it too Tom.
I have to agree about the Dungeon of D. It is one of the best solitaire games I have ever played, and the newer artwork cards are a must. It is a ton of fun, especially if you travel for work often.
FYI, Jack Darwind self published the Adventure of D, hence the sub-par production values. Hopefully this review might help his games get noticed!
when you just get an original idea for a day you see it's already implemented (card game with multiple uses of single card crossed with levelling of characters.). So, game definitely seems interesting to me.
Have to chime in about how AWESOME the Dungeon of D is - haven't played the Adventure of D, but the Dungeon is MUST PRINT. One of my top 3 solo games.
Ditto from me! Love DoD and have both home-printed and Artscow decks of it I still play. In fact, just played it again this past week and still haven't beat it. When Indie Boards gets some copies to ship out from the US, I may have to jump on this AoD sooner than I thought, after watching this review. Thanks for the great video! This looks like a lot of fun, and some variation to playing DoD solo.
