I have been slowly making in-roads with this game system and enjoy it very much - in fact I don't know why people sometimes seem moved to attack this system as it is a perfectly respectable squad level game.
My first question: I note that infantry fire is highly lethal and the troops take much higher casualties than in say Squad Leader and Lock n Load. Is it possible I am misapplying the rules or has anyone else noted this? C1s, 2s and 3s seem very common here.
Am I right in thinking that there is no adjacent shot bonus for small arms fire?
I have the Avanti Savoia module which includes information cards for BT7 tanks but I have no BT7 counters - where would I find them (I should add here that I know this last question does not apply to this specific game but it is the flagship set so I presume ATS fans are more likely to spot my questions on this page)?
Thanks

It is highly lethal. You are probably playing it correctly.
I am not sure about the BT7 counters although if nobody else knows I can probably locate them.

Yep, C1, C2 etc results are common. Note that the average squad in ATS sports 4 steps as opposed to the two steps of the other two tac-sims you cite. I think you'll find that the longevity of squads is roughly the same in each of these games.
You likely have a BT-7 info card because there are different versions of standard sheets of such cards. Rather than customize a sheet of AFV cards for each & every game you are more likely to see an "early war Soviet" sheet that may well include tanks that are not in the game you are holding but do appear in another ATS release that contains the same AFV card sheet.
You'll see the same thing with the counters sometimes, too -- you may receive counters that are not used in any scenarios int eh game you purchased, but are necessary for another game that contaisn the same countersheet.

Many ATS games have counters and/or cards of vehicles not used in the game for use in future o DYO scenarios, think of them as bonus.
The best way to get help in the system is to go to the Critical Hit Message Board (chmb) - http://chmb.invisionzone.com

Thanks folks:
The BT7 is included in the scenarios. I have a horrid suspicion the counter came with Mannerheim's Cross which, as far as I know, is out of print.
Yes, the four-step slow grind argument makes sense. The scenarios also require an Italian field kitchen and a soviet elite tank commander.

I looked through all of the modules featuring the Russians. Mannerheim Cross was the only place I found the BT-7.
Many of the smaller modules are not standalone games. It should say on the descriptions which are and which are not. The ones that are not, CH does for the "fans" and they assume you have one or usually more of the boxed games.

As I figured. I tilted things a bit and gave the reds an extra T34b - grossly unfair - instead of the 2 BT7s. what about the field kitchen - I know there is a 'sausage war' type scenario in Mannerheim's Cross but presumably that's a soviet field kitchen - unless it's a non-specific nationality counter.
