Hi,

have some doubts as regard Orderly Withdrawal rules (6.4).

At 6.42 first bullet rules say:
"...the unit may use OW at any time during that enemy Orders Phase (only)."

Then, point 6.45 states that:
"A unit may OW an unlimited number of times during that enemy Order Phase as long as it passed the OW die roll (6.42).

We assume a unit can attempt the OW check only one time per enemy Order Phase.
So it could be useful to mark units that passed their OW die roll at any time during an enemy Order Phase and also mark units that failed an OW die roll at any time during an enemy Order Phase.
Unfortunately no such markers are provided in the game, AFAIK.

Rule 6.44 says: "If the Withdrawing unit was being approached from a rear or flank hex (i.e., the hex into which the enemy, moving unit intended to move), it incurs one (1) Hit before withdrawing."
Point 6.44 it's not clear.
In fact, a unit must attempt OW before an enemy unit actually moves adjacent to its rear or flank hex. See player note at 6.41: "Yes, it says within two hexes, so any (eligible) friendly unit can withdraw if an enemy moves within two hexes, even if that unit doesn't actually move in his direction. Thus the friendly player must make hís decision to withdraw before the moving enemy makes his full intentions clear!"

Thanks in advance for clarifications.

A unit rolls each and every time it wants to conduct OW. Each roll is independent, so one roll at the beginning does not determine for the rest of the turn if the unit can conduct OW.

Are you sure?

At 6.42, bullet one: if the adjusted DR is the same as or lower than the unit's TQ, the unit may use OW at any time during that enemy Orders Phase (only).

If a unit must roll every time it wants to conduct OW there not need to say at any time during that enemy Orders Phase .

At 6.42, bullet two: if the adjusted DR is higher, the unit may not use OW during that enemy Orders Phase.

It seems like no more OW attempt are later allowed during that enemy Orders Phase.

(6.45) A unit may withdraw an unlimited number of times during that enemy Orders Phase as long as it has passed the OW die roll (6.42).

Rule says the OW die roll not an OW die roll: this means one OW die roll per enemy Orders Phase (?).

Down here clarifications provided by GMT Games support.

Hi, have some doubts as regard Orderly Withdrawal rules (6.4). At 6.42 first bullet rules say: "...the unit may use OW at any time during that enemy Orders Phase (only)." Then, point 6.45 states that: "A unit may OW an unlimited number of times during that enemy Order Phase as long as it passed the OW die roll (6.42).

AJR: Correct, one die roll per Orders Phase. There are no markers. If you wish, flip the units their reverse side to keep track of those who have failed their OW DR.

Rule 6.44 says: "If the Withdrawing unit was being approached from a rear or flank hex (i.e., the hex into which the enemy, moving unit intended to move), it incurs one (1) Hit before withdrawing." Point 6.44 it's not clear. Thus the friendly player must make hís decision to withdraw before the moving enemy makes his full intentions clear!" Thanks in advance for clarifications.

AJR: Sorry, but I don't know how to make the point any clearer. Try this: If the moving unit is within two hexes and could in its next MP move adjacent into a flank or rear hex of the unit that can OW, the OW unit takes incurs the hit. Or perhaps, try this: if the approaching unit is in the withdrawing units flank or rear arc, it earns a hit.

I thank Alan Ray (AJR), GMT Games for the quick and kind answers.

Those clarifications are good to have.

I have one further question, regarding 6.43: "The withdrawing unit maintains its original facing throughout withdrawal at no cost in Cohesion Hits or Movement Points".

Does this mean the withdrawing unit can move in any direction and not just into the two front hexes? If not, what is the meaning of this rule?

It would seem more sensible that the withdrawing unit would spend movement points as normal, changing facing and moving forward, but this seems to say something different. I just can't quite graps what.
