The PDF rules in the files section for the American version are explicit about this, but I can't find in my own Drei Magier Spiele edition rules or the German translation where it explicitly notes that you can check the identity (good/bad) of a captured ghost.

Presumably you do, yes?

You sort of have to, since you win if you capture all 4 good ones, and lose if you capture all 4 bad ones. I guess you could keep it secret and just wait for your opponent to inform you whether you won or lost, but we always just assumed you check as you capture.

Yes, captured ghosts are identified.

It could be interesting to try it without identifying the ghosts. It might make the game too random, though.
