Fellow designers,

Here is a new game system: Nestortiles.

I hope you like it!

I'm creating a geeklist of games that can be played with this tiles, so you can add yours.

Please feel free to ask anything in this thread.

Thank you!

Néstor

Re: NESTORTILES thread: Demo Video.
This seems like a very interesting product. It seems more useful to build maps or structures than dice, really, although that is not a bad aspect. These are similar to some building toys and puzzles, so maybe these would be successful if marketed at an audience of children.

Also, as a more general comment related to the video, it may be beneficial when demonstrating the product in a particular language (I'm assuming here that since your location is Spain there is some language gap) that even when the script is very clear, the person speaking should not have a very strong accent when speaking in another language. It made it somewhat difficult to understand what was being said. Also, having good, clean, and consistent audio throughout the video is important. The middle portion of the video (which was the most important in describing the product) had lower volume and quality. Overall, when showcasing something, you want to make it very easy for the audience to hear and understand.

I'm glad you like it, Ryan!

About the video and audio quality, I apologize. It is my first 'complex' video and I'm still learning how to do it. So many things...

I understood everything perfectly and my native language is neither English nor Spanish or anything close.

That was NOT a "very strong" accent. Sure it was a bit quirky, but at the same time very clear.

Re: NESTORTILES thread: Demo Video.
This is what Eva says, in case you don't understand:

--------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I'm Eva Lopez, from nestorgames, and this is a Nestortile.

Nestortiles are interlocking foam panels in different colors, numbered like dice or dominoes, with 1 to 6 pips on each. They can be used to play many games.

You can use them as tiles, creating flat maps like dungeons, or assemble them three-dimensionally to create custom six-sided dice. These dice can range from the standard D6 numbered 1 to 6 in one color to any D6 you can imagine, by mixing colors and numbers.

There are 2 types of Nestortiles:

A-Type: The interlocking teeth are short, so the edges of the assembled dice are flush, suitable for making a single die, for example.

B-Type: The interlocking teeth are about double in length, allowing you to connect multiple tiles or dice in order to create more complex 3D structures.

Moreover, you can customize the tiles by drawing on their backs with a permanent marker or by adding stickers, and create your own designs!

That's all. Have fun!

-------------------------------------------------------

I hope this helps

Are the spots on both sides of the tile? She never shows the back of a tile.

Hi, Joe.

They are just on one side.

Dangit... not quite big enough for Icehouse pieces. What are the overall dimensions?

I guess if one tooth side was about 50mm long [3 x 3 cm overall, for type A], it would actually work.

Re: NESTORTILES thread: Demo Video.
A-type teeth are 0,5 cm long. B-type teeth are 1 cm long.

This means that A-type Nestortiles are 3x3 cm, and B-type are 4x4 cm

So using B-type Nestortiles gives you an inner surface of 3x3 cm (although the non-teeth area is 2x2 in both types).

Aha... so a playing surface construct of A-types could have an almost perfect [2.5 v 2.54 cm] 1-inch square grid superimposed / implied over it.

Icehouse pieces are 1-inch square [for the big ones], so could straddle the teeth mid-way between tiles and work well unless a bunch of larges lined up.

The pieces would cover the inner 2 x 2 cm, plus .25(2) cm in each direction if centered over the tile, leaving the other .25(2) cm for the next piece over.

Have considered using the B-type tiles instead? With the extra length of the teeth on the B-type, even the large Icehouse pyramids would have some elbow room.

Why 60 tiles? Because it is divisible by 2,3,4,5 and 6?

Why 10 colours?

Hi, Vic.

Yes, that's correct. 60 is a very interesting number.

Because of the number of dice you can make with 60 tiles

Re: NESTORTILES, a new game system (demo video).
Math guys there? Let's do some calculations with Nestortiles.

- How many different dice you can create with one set of Nestortiles?

- How many different sets of 10 dice you can create with a set of Nestortiles?

- Removing color permutations, How many different sets of 10 dice you can create with a set of Nestortiles? (This is, colors A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J being the same as C,G,B,D,H,J,I,A,E,F, for example)

- How many different dominoes you can create with one set of Nestortiles?

- How many different sets of 30 dominoes you can create with a set of Nestortiles?

- Removing color permutations, How many different sets of 30 dominoes you can create with a set of Nestortiles?

If you ignore different arrangement of the same faces on the same die (which you would if you're just rolling them), then the answer is 60 choose 6, or a mere 50 063 860

- How many different sets of 10 dice you can create with a set of Nestortiles?
[/q]
Something like 60! / ( (6! ^ 10) * 10! ~= 6E46.

I don't understand this question. Could you clarify?
Quote:

60 * 59 = 3540

60! / ( 30! * (2! ^ 30) ) ~= 2.9E40.

Again, I don't know how you define ignoring colour permutations. Ignoring colours entirely?

Hi, Bruce. I was waiting for you

It's a bit difficult for me to explain this in english, but I will try.

Imagine these dice (just colors):

A B C D E
B C D E F

They are 'in practice' the same as:

A B C D E
C D E F A

... but not the same as...

A B C D E
A B C D E

So I'm looking for solutions that are not the same 'in practice'.

Does this make sense to you?

Dice are confusing. Could you give an example with a set if 3 dominoes, specifying colours and pips?

Thanks.

Ah, now I get you. For whole set answers (that consume all tiles) simply divide by 10! (about 3.6 million)
