Subject: Anyone broken 60 yet? (just had a 58-56 game) rss

soooooooo close this time
playing the expansion in a 2P game, managed to build 16 buildings in total, helped by the Carpenter and a "good year" event card that gave white dice, and despite some tough enemies including the last year dragons, missus built a very large early lead only for me to surge past in the end and win 58-56 with a spare block of wood on hand for a tiebreaker.

I doubt we will break 60 anytime soon, but at least we are now getting to 45 and past fairly regularly

good strategies, well, we are trying all the new role cards and different building rows, but the Inn-Market and military strategy (not the Embassy) seem to work very well, stocking up the church row with gold late on if you can. Love the lookout tower and crane buildings as well

Would have to double check my records, but did break 60 in the base game, but it was just a 3p game. Otherwise, I struggle to get even 40 when everyone else is pretty diligent about blocking you and such.

60 with the base game is super impressive! It is easier with less players, but still. Nice going!

Well what do you know, my 2nd game ever on BSW and got battered, 30 points in a 4P game, using only the soldier tokens,on base game. The winner got sixty freaking one points.
I've had it with BSW. People play at 100mph and everyone seems to have played a thousand games there and are experts at every game. 13 games played, 13 lost in Puerto Rico, Carcassonne, Stone AGe, Kingsburg and Dominion, only in Kingsburg did anyone chat, though the PR guys have been a bit more pleasant. Feels uncomfortably like autobot cylons there just to rack up "impressive" game plays/win stats.

In our games with the expansions, when someone plays the Priest, the winner usually breaks 80pts.

the Priest? I think we always ignored him, maybe I need to look him up, what is good about him again, does he take points for not having white dice?

Wow. I have broken 80 a couple times in hundreds of plays, but not "usually." But we usually play 2-player. Maybe 3-5 player games are higher-scoring.

Yar, a friend of mine got 60+ once, and I think his wife did on another night. Not bad for maybe a dozen or so plays.

I meant usually when the priest (every season, everyone gets a white die) is in play, not every game.

Another game on BSW, another guy broke 60 with just the base game, no bother. Another defeat for me, with little I could do. tiresome!

Ah, that makes more sense. Come to think of it, I think a couple of my 80+ point victories were when I was playing the Priest. Who is a great governor, period, just because he makes the game so much fun for everyone!

The not to get down about it. Some of the people on BSW have played hundreds or even thousands of times and are very good.

Hopefully you're learning by playing against them. At the end of each game see who won and what strategy they used. It can also help to try to evaluate the other player's positions during the game. Work out what strategy they're using and try to work out who's doing best.

My favourite Kingburg strategy I learnt by watching another player (as he wiped the floor with me).

Just scored 84 in a 3-player game with no house rules. We used the new building rows, governors, and events (no soldier tokens or alternate building rows). I played the Priest governor and built the Mint and the Cathedral (plus the Blacksmith, Stable, and Improvised Defenses) with 22 goods left over for an additional 11 points from the Cathedral!
