I'm looking for recommendations for books on the Philadelphia Campaign; I generally trust older sources rather than 21st Century "scholarship". Guess I'm a curmudgeonly bastard about such things! shake

FOUND: "The Philadelphia Campaign Vol. 1 of 2; Brandywine and the Fall of Philadelphia" Thomas J. McGuire 2006

Superb; Vol. 2 on it's way

Hey Rob, please let me know what you think of McGuire's book(s). I've been considering them for a long time now and would be interested to get a gamers perspective. Thanks. Tom

I haven't read all of volume 1, but what I read I thought was good (his style is a little dry). I haven't bought volume 2 yet. McGuire's previous book, The Battle of Paoli, is very good for the detail and for offering the proper perspective of the "massacre". I did get a little lost on the geography surrounding Paoli - the maps aren't half bad, but residents of the area would be better at understanding the various roads and highways than the rest of us.

I have read both volumes and found them good and good companions for the BAR games. His Paoli book is good also.

I just finished off the second volume- then looped back to re-read the first! Great stuff!
