I like the game and I like the principle of 8 sided dice but the actual examples in the game are pretty poor. About the cheapest looking 8 sided dice i have ever seen.
Has anyone tried making their own 8 sided dice for the game?
I don't suppose anyone is aware of a company selling after purchase extra dice of a higher quality for this game do they?

Poor dice???
Seriously???
I guess there are levels to geekiness that I just can't fathom.
As for your question, maybe get some indented 8-siders and attach stickers to the faces.
Or just use normal 8-siders and keep a reference sheet handy. 1, 2, 3, equals green, etc.
Or you could have several decks of 8 playing cards or tiles or poker chips and just randomize them every time.
I'm running out of ideas.
Good luck, dude.

I am also baffled. As a side note , nothing beats the awfulness of memoir'44 dice. The symbols started to fade after the second game.So i was relieved to see that the dice in BoW are plastic...And for the death of me i can't see something wrong with them

Ok must be just me.

I like the dice in memoir 44 and battledore. Even the weird dice in c&c ancients are ok
I guess just as an aside I would be interested to see if there is anyone out there like me who don't like the dice!

Some dice are supplied where you have to fix stickers to their sides (eg Groo: the game), others are printed, but that can wear off (eg Doom).
Bow's dice symbols are carved, have good size and weight, and are clear. I've been using them and no one has broken so far.

Battle of Westeros dice are the best dice in any C&C/BL game!
Instead of having to affix stickers that peel off or get lost, or using cheap dice with the symbols painted on that wear off, you have the symbol actually engraved/recessed into the die! So now matter how much you play, you can always be assured of telling what symbol you have just rolled.
The step up in die quality from previous games to BoW is quite noticeable.

I think those are all good points.
My eye sight is pretty poor and I find the symbols VERY small, even worse only about half the shield is coloured, so in poor light I have to look quite carefully to notice which are green and which are blue.
I would have been happier if the shield designs etc were MUCH larger such as they are in Memoir, Battlelore and C&C Ancients.
I do however agree with your comments that they are engraved and no stickers are required so guess most people will like them. Just half blind pernickety people like me who aren't happy

In that case, why don't you use a permanent marker on your dice to make some vertical lines, diagonal lines and crosses, to better differentiate the shields?

Not a bad idea, Keep the basic dice and enhance them. I would use paint rather than a marker, but not a bad idea at all....
Thanks for that. One short sided set of dice coming up.
I understand why they do the funny shield bits on the dice (for colour blind people) but fortunately one of the things not wrong with my eyes is they aren't colour blind.
