I've played twice irl where everything stayed ship to ship. I'm DMing the game Saturday so I ran through a sample personal fight. Do people really drop in like one phase?

2 Zoallan Marines are at a bar and one says "Your mama so fat, when she goes to the movies she sits next to everybody." The other replies, "Dude, we were both born in the same year. She's your mom too," and shoots him.

Combat 4 vs Target 9... need a 5 (Canosian and you need a 3!)
6HP, 2 armor, Damage 2d6 - 1... need a 9 to KO. Below 9 and he gets one phase to shoot back

1) Does every weapon having a turbo power pack mean they can fire every phase? Or could weapons fire every phase before and now they can fire multiple times in a phase?

2) Is the medkit heal action Science vs 11 heal 1d6 +1d6 per +3 on target #, or Science vs 11 heal 1 per point over 11? (I have a recent handout that differs from first edition book.)

3) Only Humans and Xeloxians can wear armor?

If memory serves, personal weapons (like pistols, etc.) can shoot every phase but the rifle can shoot more than once per phase. However, to take advantage of this one must still have a special ability allowing them to take the extra shot.

Heya, I've just started GMing BS as well, have about 8 games in now.

The first 4-5 games my players tore through the enemies except when they rushed in taking chances. Now that they are getting up to rank 4 it's becoming more of a challenge due to the increased MD (mission difficulty)

Against NPC's, yes you can drop em in 1 or two phases. It's a bit tougher for them to drop a PC though due to luck and special abilities.

I have all the books and the newest 1.1 rules. All handheld weapons can fire 1/phase as far as I know and the blast rifle can fire more if you have special abilities or a situation to do it.

The former. The rule where you gain something for each point over the target # is when you are using Science skill to gather data.

Yep!

The newest rule (as of "Bot Wars") is that weapons can fire as often as you have actions to pull the trigger. This obviates the turbo power pack but makes things a lot simpler.

Yes, personal combat is pretty quick and bloody. Heroes drop enemies in one or two shots. Enemies take out a luck on average every other time they hit the heroes.

BTW, love the zoalla mamma joke.

It's also not really that "lethal" if you have scientists and sick bays. It's just really easy to get knocked out. I suppose with cloning vats though, the game is really never "lethal".

Well, just because the clone comes to life doesn't mean you didn't die.
