I have not played PR in awhile but we are playing tonight. I reviewed the Universal Head rules summary. It says this about the Captain role: "On a player’s turn he must load goods if he can, and as many of those goods as he can. He must choose the ship where he can load the most goods."

I know the first sentence is correct, but is the bolded part correct (must choose the ship where you can load the most goods)? I know that the PC version does not enforce this rule and I don't remember playing with it on the board game.

Thanks in advance.

FWIW, I don't think that bold part is correct either. We certainly have never played that way. You must load a good if you can, but you can choose to load any good you want. You must load as much of that good as you can.

That bolded part is correct, but it's after you've selected your good you wish to ship.

So, if you choose to ship corn, and you have six, and the 4 and 6 ships are available, you *must* choose the 6 ship.

If you chose Indigo, and only had 1, you could choose either ship for strategic reasons.

Thanks, I found the part in the actual rules.

Quote:
- When a player loads goods of a kind, he must load as many of that kind as he can. A player cannot hold back goods when there is space on a ship carrying the kind of goods he has. If a player has a kind of goods that can be loaded on several empty ships, he must choose the ship where he can load the most goods, leaving none behind, if possible.

- If a player has several kinds of goods that he can load, he may choose
freely, which goods to load. He need not choose the goods that would allow
him to load the most barrels.
