To EMP Pistol somebody's weapon, I need to target an 11. When I EMP grenade them, do I get to attack all of their energized eq with a bunch of 11 targets, or is everything just considered hit and broken.

Area effect does not hit personal equipment.
You have to target a piece of equipment specifically.

Not 100% realistic but the more realistic a game gets the harder it is to apply all the rules and the longer the sessions take right?

Cheers!

Soooo... if I hit you with an EMP Grenade, I choose one piece of your equipment and attack it at 11? Or EMP Grenades only attack you-the-person so it only hits cyberware?

Ah, I see what you mean now.

Based on the revised v1.1 manual:

To target personal equipment with any personal weapon the to hit # is 11.(page 21)
grenades are not personal weapons so you cannot target personal equipment ON A CHARACTER with grenades.

An EMP pistol (page 26) can be used to target one piece of energized equipment on a character OR all their cyberware. NOT BOTH.

An EMP grenade (page 29) affects all characters in line of sight as if they had been hit by an EMP pistol.
It doesn't seem logical that the person tossing an EMP grenade could choose which piece of equipment on each person will be affected.
Therefore the only common effect could be all cyberware on all characters in line of sight of the EMP grenade.

It also mentions that an EMP grenade affects all LOOSE EQUIPMENT in line of sight.

Loose equipment (page 17) are items characters have dropped or left loose on floor tiles. Usually you place an equipment marker there so it can be picked up later.

So! basically this all means that a toolkit or blast pistol held in hand or stowed on a person is safe from area effect from grenades, but the same equipment is unprotected and can be damaged/affected while on the ground. Oh, when a module is damaged all loose equipment in that module can also be damaged.

Hope that helps!
