Hello everyone, I looked through the rule book several times but was unable to find the effects of the keyword "independent". Does it have special rules or is it just for being referenced (such as with keywords like servitor of criminal)? Thanks for the help!

It is just a keyword, no special rules. There may be a card already which gives bonuses or detriments to independent characters, or if not there probably will be in future.

It is not a keyword, but rather a subtype. Similarly, Criminal and Investigator are also subtypes. They have no intrinsic function, but cards may refer to them.
At present, no cards refer to Independent, and so it does nothing.
