Hi All

I'm a little confused with the status of the Dutch countries for the global game.

From what I've gleaned from the rules:
1. the UK or ANZACs can take over Dutch countries in non-combat moves and consequently get the IPCs of that territory. From this point onwards it is no longer Dutch
2. an attack by the Japanese on Dutch territories is considered an act of war against both UK and ANZACs

Questions:
a. When Japan attacks Dutch territories, does this mean the US is now at war with Japan as it is considered an unprovoked attack against UK and ANZACs? Also, would this be different if Japan is ALREADY at war with UK and ANZACs?

b. can the US or Soviets take over Dutch territories?

Thanks

a. The Dutch territories are considered to be part of UK/ANZAC for political purposes, even if they're still Dutch.

b. Yes, but only by recapturing them from the Axis.

building on from this, 2 scenarios regarding the US
The US will go to war if there is an unprovoked attack on the UK and/or ANZACs

Does that mean:
1. If UK / ANZACs are NOT at war with Japan and Japan invades Dutch territory, then the US is also at war with Japan.
2. if the UK / ANZACs are already at war with Japan and Japan invades Dutch territory the US is NOT at war with Japan.

Thanks

We've played it that if the Japanese attack the Dutch before the UK and ANZAC declare war on the Japanese, the Japanese are hence declaring war on everyone...including the US.

Maybe that's the wrong way, but that's how we interpreted it.

These are correct. However, it's important to note that the US is not immediately at war with Japan after an unprovoked attack on UK/ANZAC. It is allowed to declare war, which it may do in the Combat Move phase of its next turn.
