I find myself kinda disappointed that they advert the game as a 1-5 player game - and then only 2 of the 13 (right?) quests are actually designed for 1 player... Anyone else? I enjoy playing solitaire board games - this, DungeonQuest, etc. - my wife goes to bed early and I enjoy being able to play something as I zone out to TV.
I love playing boardgames with my friends - and really like that there are up to 5 players in the group quests (as we typically play Descent so our main play group is a group of 5...)
Anyone play with 2 heroes as a single player? That run fine for you if you have? I presume it would...
Have they said anything about more bonus missions they might be releasing as well - for single play?

1 player doesn't necessarily mean 1 hero. You are right there are only two Adventures dedicated to one HERO, but there's no problem playing the other Adventures controlling two or more Heroes yourself. That being said, there's nothing stopping you from playing the 2-5 adventures with only 1 hero. Probably won't be easy though :)
Similariy, Arkham Horror sports 1-8 players. No way I'd try that with a single Investigator though, that's suicide (at best).

That's true - didn't think of it as one player vs. one hero.

I was just hoping for more of the solo experience... Just have to make some quests up then!

We've played the solo quests with 2 players. In practice, there doesn't seem to really be any difference except for the difficulty - more characters is easier.
Given the amount of team focused abilities, I think you'll probably have more fun just playing as two (or more) characters anyway.

That was one of my main disappointments with Arkham Horror, actually. It always seemed like having to field more than one character as a solo player was a bit of a compromise.

Your mouse hovered over the badge? Congratulations! It has been immersed in acid and perished. Do you want to try again?
The monster you seek can be found somewhere in a tower in Terra Australis Ignota.

Nope. I've won a bunch of AH scenarios as a solo investigator. Often by defeating the Big Bad at the end, but a couple of times by sealing six gates of closing them all.
Adding the extra locations and then trying it solo is *not* a good idea.

I too was disappointed that only 2 adventures were designed for 1 hero. I'm also disappointed that there are no adventures designed for 1 to 5 players. Why always 2-5 players? I'm going to try a couple of these missions as one hero and see if it plays all right. The game scales so well, I'm pretty sure some of these missions will play fine as one hero.

I tend to find two characters best for solo play. There is a whole layer of the game that relates to relative positioning of characters with different skills to maximise advantage and this disappears with a single character. On the other hand with three or more the number of things I have to keep track of begins to impact on my ability to keep a tight narrative in my head.
Both two and three character games give you lots of character combos to explore and minimize repitition.

I'd like to see Mission Impossible modified for 2-5 players. It's certainly tough enough!

Being an impatient sod, between multiplayer sessions I’ve been going through all the adventures in the book one at a time with each hero played solo, using 2 surges each game.
I'm beginning to think that where it reads 2-5 heroes, you could easily read 1-5 instead. Adventure 2: Icon of Ravenloft says 2-5 heroes for example, but it was easy with just 1 hero - I beat it with each hero once and only lost 1 time . You often lose the hero's special skill (cleric can't heal, fighter can't protect) but this is mitigated by certain other breathers, e.g. encounters that cause you to attack another hero, etc.
Currently I'm playing solo against Klak and have already beaten him once and lost once, but tonight it's back on for a multiplayer session.
In my experience solo play has been very rewarding and surprisingly re-playable with one hero otherwise using the rules as written. Way more accommodating than Arkham Horror. And the variety of tiles, encounters and monsters is brilliant. Wrath of Ashardalon fast is becoming a must-buy...

I tried that one last night and rolled the cleric as my first hero. He did very well (his healing strike almost makes it too easy), except for of course Encounters, and probably would have eventually won (if not for Encounters) except that the first Villain he found was Klak. There are 3 or 4 monsters on the board at the time, so rather than trying to fight too many, he kited the monsters away to take them on one-by-one. This caused Klak to flee, run away and find more help. He ran so far, he found both the other Villains (The Hag and The Young Vampire) and eventually the dwarf was overwhelmed.
At that point though I had to stop the game as company arrived. I'm going to try again tonight and see how far I get.

This is a quote from Peter Lee the game designer in a seperate thread.
"Honestly, you could play many of them with just one Hero, but you may need to add a couple of healing surges to balance it."

I like to play solo with 3 heroes. To me, 3 heroes is the sweet spot, where the game ends up really close either way.

Juggling 3 heroes would be too much hassle for a simpleton like myself but I could see how that would work pretty smoothly for others. If I have to play solo though, I actually prefer the idea of a lone hero going in to complete the mission. Reminds me of Fighting Fantasy game books only with cool minis and stuff.
I get the distinct impression that the Dracolich/Strahd missions may become exponentially more difficult with 1 character however. Will probably hold off on playing them without my group anyway...

I've done Gravestorm with a group of 4 people, and while the game scales really well, I found that Gravestorm was a lot easier with multiple heroes for the sole reason that we could have him attack the hero with the most HPs (after he burns his Dragon's Breath, if he's within one tile, he only attacks one hero, so we just surrounded him). If you were playing with one hero, that would mean the dragon would hit you every turn, whittling you down faster than spreading the damage around to other heroes.
But if you were playing the Cleric, especially since he's Undead, it probably wouldn't be that much more difficult. I'll have to try that adventure tonight (that one and Klak have been my favorites so far).
