I think I've unraveled what happened to cause the very erroneous response that the game is no longer in print.

The English version of Risk Legacy is currently being sold in the US by Alliance/Diamond distributors, who have it as an exclusive. As such, the game goes right to them without really entering the Hasbro system. The US customer service team is aware of the game and is able to help with inquiries. However, the ones that were exported to the UK were really outside the knowledge of the UK support team.

So when an inquiry came in for replacement parts, someone must have looked in the system, didn't see the game listed, and assumed it was an old game that had since been discontinued. I will try to get this corrected with that team.

Doubled checked with sales and there are no plans on putting this out of print any time soon.

Sorry about the confusion.

Thanks Rob! You go above and beyond the duties of a designer. This is clearly more than PR - it's your baby. We appreciate it.

Also, congrats on designing a game that's climbed into the top 400! For what it's worth (let's not idealize the rankings), that's a record for RISK.

Many thanks Rob. I thought it was strange. I did panic buy another copy but that's no bad thing!

I withdraw my original rant with pleasure.

I look forward to your next creation.

Awesome game concept.

Not looking for any spoilers here ninja, but are there any plans for expansions at this time ? Anything that can be shared to keep our hopes up ?

That is not merely not unusual, it's to be expected. HasbroUK rarely seem to have a clue about the products and lines that Hasbro publish if it doesn't start with the letter "M".

I had *exactly* the same problem about ten years ago when I needed a replacement tile for Acquire (Greg S, star that he is, sorted me out in the end). "Hasbro doesn't publish that game" said HasbroUK, despite pretty clear evidence from the logo on the box that it did. Again, down to the fact that the copies of Acquire in UK shops had been sourced through the specialist game distributors rather than HasbroUK.

It took me quite a while to realise that Hasbro as a company was not a bunch of clueless muppets, when much of the evidence I had to go on concerned the behaviour of HasbroUK.

Compare and contrast how well Heroscape did in the two markets. In the US market, it was managed by Hasbro; nine or ten expansions, TV adverts, in every major retail chain. I gather it was something of a hit. In the UK market, it was down to HasbroUK; they only brought in the first Master Set, no expansions, and it had so little presence that the one chain which carried it (advertised at a price equivalent to $60-70) sold so few, they eventually remaindered most of their stocks of the game at $5-10 per copy. Of course advertising budgets are different, but it surely doesn't help when the marketing department of HasbroUK have a hang-up over one particular piece of Hasbro intellectual property that they never seem able to mention any of their other games when they do decide to publicize anything.

Risk Legacy looks like another very good indicator that the parent company places at least some value on a good, interesting or novel game.

Maybe a little bit off the original topic, but does anyone know whether (or where to ask about whether) Risk Legacy will come out in other countries than the USA, the UK and in German in Germany?

Just so I know I shouldn't hold my breath for a Dutch translation and try and get a copy from the UK. whistle
