This is NOT a Chihuahua. It is a Sphynx cat. A bald, grouchy Sphynx cat who will bite you if you mistake him for a Chihuahua.

We are pleased to announce that Chicken Caesar has been awarded Game Salute's Springboard Seal of Quality! We knew it was a great game, but it's nice to hear someone else say it. 8ˆ)
Game Salute has a great deal more experience with this whole process than we do, so we'll be working with them to ensure that we get the best components and the fastest shipping for our Kickstarter supporters. We launch in a mere 8 days!
Check us out at NevermoreGames.com for plenty of ways to keep up with the latest news on Chicken Caesar.

You guys need to get on the bandwagon and release some art for t-shirts. After making my prototype, I prodded James (@ Minion Games) into making something like this!
I have some cool ideas...

"I am become..."?

EDIT: Nevermind, the famous Oppenheimer quote actually is "I am become...".

Does the Springboard Seal of Approval mean anything? Seems like a pretty mixed bag of games and they just dole it out to anything Game Salute distributes.
Not saying your game won't be good, but I don't see that Springboard indicates quality from what they've done (or attempted to do) so far.

I can't really speak to the quality of all the other games they've approved; I know that the few I've gotten have been good.
What they've done for us has been to put the game in the hands of blind playtesters, who get to learn and play the game from the rules and components in the box, and send their feedback to us. They verify that the game works well and that the rules are clear as written. This alone, frankly, puts Chicken Caesar ahead of quite a few games on BGG. They give us feedback on the graphics and component quality, as well, and work with our printer to make sure we get good production quality.
The seal does not guarantee that Chicken Caesar is the kind of game that you will like, but it is the best certification available that a yet-to-be-published game is what it purports to be.

It's marketing - like a "Better Housekeeping Seal of Approval."
I imagine they is some minimum threshold you have to pass, though, mostly around being reputable.

They really do play the game before approving it. 8ˆ)
I should add that if anyone else knows of an independent authority who will playtest and certify the game, we'll be happy to send it out. Well, not happy, exactly -- making a good prototype is less exciting than you might expect -- but we'll certainly do it.

Ha ha. Nice, Tim.
There is an interesting process to how a publisher gets the Springboard Seal of Quality on a game. They don't just test the game and see if it's alright, it's actually rated on a scale. After having blind testers and industry professionals test the game, they rate it on various things John mentioned above.
Even if you have great rules, or a fun game, it doesn't get approved unless you can score a certain value in all of the categories, including presentation.

I really wanted to ask the same thing but I didn't want to sound like a cynic. In truth, I put no weight in this springboard approved thing since there is largely no documentation on their website showing their criteria or whom participated whose opinion I should hold near and dear.
Sounds like some middle man marketing and testing....with an online store. I guess if you are in need of that advice or assistance, then it was worthwhile. As a consumer, however, it MEANS NOTHING TO ME.
And if you do have answers:
- who are they? THERE IS NO ABOUT US. (who is involved that I should consider their views to be gold here?) - how much testing is done? at cons? game nights? privately in their living room? - how does their scoring system work?
That said, if I am totally off-base, please send me to the information and I will read it directly. I really wholeheartedly mean no offense to gamesalute with this - there are plenty of industries that thrive from middle men but my take is that you, nevermore games, had a really good product already. I hope you did not pay considerable amounts of money to be a part of that.

Again, we're happy to submit our design to any recognized certifying authority you want to tell us about. But we aren't aware of any other than Springboard.
As to your specific questions about Springboard, I'll refer you to Dan Yarrington, who has been our point of contact at GameSalute:

there is really no need to do so...as I said, for once, I am merely being a cynic. I realize these guys handle fulfillment for companies, which is a really big job. I just wished if they wanted the support of customers in this industry, they would inform the public a bit more about who they are and what they do to test products they endorse. This is not necessarily information customers should HAVE to seek out. I went to their website and it mentioned nothing about the process.
Looking forward to chicken Caesar, btw. I love negotiation games and am very pleased with all I heard from a game club mate who played Chicken Caesar at euroquest. Game looks and sounds great and it will be here in time for around my birthday in August. Good luck with the KS campaign, John.

Thanks for the thoughts and inquiry, Tom. This has been something we've been discussing in great detail internally as our Springboard services have developed over the past year. The actual list of steps that Springboard certification entails is monstrous (over 200 individual checkpoints last I checked) and we're always refining it. We're expanding our staff here shortly, as we're growing rapidly, so we'll be creating a certification timeline to share with the public this year. What would you like to see in that timeline? There are a ton of details that could be overwhelming and many can be encapsulated within a single header. For instance, "Ensuring quality printing" has about 35 steps within that including quotes, component review, layout optimization, etc. This process is something that's usually done by the publisher and in the case of our publishing studio clients, we're serving as their toolbox in this regard as well as establishing consistency across the process. This takes time since we deal with so many different design studios, but we're finding that the refined process is having a great effect in the success of the projects we support through Springboard.
There's also the matter of the invisible fence here. We turn away more projects than we accept, but we're not going to go touting those that fail our Springboard certification, out of respect for the client. Would it be alright instead to have general examples rather than specific instances of elements that would score badly on the Springboard charts?
