I will always love Doug's games, but I gotta say, when I opened the box of my brand new copy of Nuclear Escalation, I was a bit thrown back. The die it came with is the worst piece of game material I have ever seen in my life—it's piece of garbage. FBI could do better.

IIRC, The early print runs came with a glow-in-the-dark die. How new is new? I have a 10+ year old copy that came with a non-glowing die that uses the same "high impact plastic" that second-generation RPG dice used. It's a purple plastic die.

Ooh a little higher, now a bit to the left, a little more, a little more, just a bit more. Oooh yes, that's the spot!

It doesn't come with a glow in the dark die anymore? That's a pity.

No, it came with a translucent red die with extremely sharp edges, in which the numbers had been stamped so hard that it doesn't really qualify as cubic any more. (This was purchased 2 weeks ago. No way to know when it was actually manufactured.)

Sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the die in you brand new game.

But welcome to the beast board game site on the internet, anyway!

I wish they still had the glow in the dark dice, it was just a great add-in ...

Yeah, the die is garbage. I have a blue die from escalation circa 1998. The edges are sharp and the die is chipped in multiple places. The numbers look fine once you've taken a sharpie to them, but the explosion side is stamped too shallow to really show up.
I got a new copy of proliferation that comes with the same die in translucent red. Awful. I really want to go custom with a chessex style die...
